What you'll do

As the Materials Manager for Utilimaster (A Shyft Brand) based at our facility Kansas City, MO, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth and efficient flow of materials, components, and finished products throughout the supply chain.

Your day-to-day will involve overseeing the materials department at the plant including warehousing, inventory control, shipping and receiving, material storage, and line-side delivery. Additionally, you will be tasked with developing and implementing strategies to optimize the supply chain, streamline logistics processes, and enhance overall operational efficiency.

You will also:

  • Direct and guide production and inventory control, shipping and receiving, and materials storage
  • Collaborate with other managers to determine supply needs
  • Maintain inventory levels to ensure deliveries occur within customer timelines
  • Assur systematic integrity and accuracy of the perpetual inventory system
  • Identify the root cause and take corrective action
  • Uncover potential areas for reducing transportation costs and charges
  • Perform write-offs on damaged or obsolete inventory to reflect accurate values
  • Supervise monitor storage for purchased parts and finished goods
  • Keep detailed records on procurement activity, materials quantity, and specifications
  • Establish procedures for conducting and valuing the year-end physical inventory
  • Implement strategies to manage and optimize the flow of materials, resources, and products within the supply chain to achieve organizational goals
  • Conduct roughly 2-3 Kaizen events per year
  • Carry out timely and constructive performance evaluations
  • Partner with Materials Planning and Purchasing to schedule the delivery of materials, supplies, and equipment
  • Handle disciplinary duties and termination of employees when necessary

What you need to be successful

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, logistics, engineering, or supply chain management or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 10+ years of materials control expertise
  • 5+ years of lead and/or supervisory experience in the area of materials management
  • Expertise in JIT Inventory strategies required
  • Mastery of shipping and receiving practices
  • Deep knowledge of supply chain and inventory management systems
  • Forecast and budget skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and inventory report systems
