What you'll do
As the Senior Buyer for DuraMag (A Shyft Group brand) based in Waterville, ME, you will enjoy procuring metal, parts, materials, and supplies used to support the operations of the DuraMag plant. You'll also be responsible for negotiating cost, quality, and other sale terms, ensuring timely deliveries, and maintaining proper inventory levels.
You will also:
- Utilize the Bill of Material to prepare vendor quote requests
- Lead all strategic and tactical sourcing activities for commodities
- Oversee $25 million in purchasing
- Identify annual cost savings targets, sustainable cost savings, and total cost analysis impact
- Understand and interpret cost breakdowns of suppliers
- Obtain vendor quotes on products and examine the results to determine the best vendor
- Partner with vendors to negotiate the best terms regarding pricing, quality, delivery, and shipping
- Prepare purchase orders
- Utilize critical thinking to make trade-offs and concessions
- Resolve major supply disruptions affecting customers
- Perform cost analysis
- Monitor order status pertaining to production needs
- Verify materials are received on time
- Utilize warehouse and inventory control policies and procedures to ensure proper inventory levels
- Maintain strong relationships with vendors to ensure consistent availability and delivery
- Maximize operational efficiencies and profits by employing effective communication
- Utilize your knowledge of purchasing policies, processes, and procedures in all aspects of the role

What you need to be successful
- Eight or more (8+) years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment
- Versed in lean manufacturing philosophies and tools
- Experience dealing with prepared financial statements
- Strong and consistent attention to detail
- A track record of effectively prioritizing and executing tasks in a high-pressure environment
- A reputation for having effective communication and negotiation skills
- Ability to maintain a flexible and extended work schedule as needed to accomplish objectives
- Nominal travel when necessary
- Proficient in Microsoft 365
- Versatile, flexible, and a willingness to adapt to changing priorities
