The UMKC School of Medicine is a partner of the UMKC Health Sciences District. The UMKC clinical Department of Orthopaedic Surgery consists of over 40 sub-specialty trained surgeons at three main clinical sites in Kansas City, Missouri: University Health Hospital, St. Luke's Hospital, and Children's Mercy Hospital. There are 20 residents and 1 sports medicine fellow.

Job Description

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine is seeking to appoint an Associate or Full-Professor who has an interest and technical skill in the application of artificial intelligence to orthopaedics. This is intentionally left broad to keep open ideas for growth at the discretion of the candidate. Areas of interest of current clinical faculty include, but not limited to Natural Language Processing, imaging analysis, big data analytics, and predictive modeling. The appropriate candidate would join our faculty as the Margaret Suzanne Neal Missouri Endowed Chair in Orthopaedics.

Candidates must have a consistent and robust track record of collaborative research, that includes obtaining intra- and extra-mural funding, high-quality publications, and national and/or international presentations and speaking engagements. In addition, the successful candidate will enjoy and participate in advising medical students, developing and teaching courses, and working collaboratively with orthopedic surgeons and resident trainees.

Qualifications

MD or PhD in any STEM discipline with a successful research focus in orthopaedics and related areas of biomedical applications.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary range is commensurate with rank, credentials, demonstrated success in research, and experience. Start-up funds are available to match needs.

This is a 12-month, ranked faculty appointment eligible for tenure and continuous appointment. The desired start date is January 1, 2025. We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package. Our academic schedules and workload promote a positive work/life balance.
