Job Description

The UMKC School of Law is hiring a Lawyering Skills faculty member at the rank of Assistant Clinical Professor or Associate Clinical Professor. The position is to (1) teach the first year Lawyering Skills sequence, along with one upper-level course based on the needs of the school and on the faculty member's area of expertise, and (2) assist in our nationally recognized bar preparation program. The faculty member will teach and work with between 24-48 students per semester in the Lawyering Skills sections. Lawyering Skills faculty members have voting rights in faculty meetings.

This is a ranked, non-tenure track 9-month faculty appointment to begin in August 2025. There is opportunity for ranked promotion with multi-year contracts.

Our Legal Writing program is nationally recognized for excellence, rated in the top 20 schools in the US News & World Report ranking. The program is an autonomous but highly collaborative program. Faculty in the program work together to design problems, train and supervise teaching assistants, and develop curricula and pedagogies. Qualifications

A J.D. or equivalent degree is required for the position of Lawyering Skills faculty. The rank of the new faculty member will be assigned commensurate with experience as an Assistant or as an Associate Clinical Professor.

Candidates will be evaluated on teaching presentation, oral communication, teaching philosophy, prior experience, student evaluations, teaching materials, ability to collaborate with other faculty, service to the university and the profession, and the ability to critique student work in a clear and helpful manner.

Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated salary range for this position is $72,000 - $82,000 annually dependent on rank, qualifications, and experience. Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements. Included in your benefit package is generous leave, health plans, and retirement contributions that add to your total compensation.
