Maintenance I - Preventative Maintenance Dept.

Salary Grade: Hourly

Basic Function:

Incumbent will be responsible for preventive maintenance on assigned machines. Safely and effectively set up and complete mold changes in a timely manner. Record data and communicate issues to appropriate personnel. Ensure effective and efficient operation of machinery for production of a high-quality finished product.

Essential Function and Responsibilities:

  • Complete preventive maintenance on all assigned production equipment in a timely manner according to schedule.
  • Determine needed parts and/or equipment necessary to complete repairs or perform preventive maintenance and complete appropriate order requests. Document appropriate observations and necessary follow-up.
  • Work as part of team with maintenance and machine operators to ensure effective PM activities are completed.
  • Use computer applications (including FlexNet) to view production schedule and plan appropriately for preventive maintenance activities and upcoming tooling changes. Meet with necessary personnel to plan each day's activities.
  • Clean outside of machine and work area after PM and turn over to production personnel in proper condition.
  • Identify and communicate any tooling or machine issues and communicate to appropriate personnel.
  • Actively identify opportunities for improvements in efficiency, safety, effectiveness and timeliness of preventive maintenance activities as well as mold changes and present suggestions to appropriate personnel.
  • May be cross trained to Mold Change and/or Shift Maintenance
  • Utilize the PM Levels Program to develop your skills and advance your career with in PM role.
  • Learn and gain expertise on new equipment and processes.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area in accordance with Company standards.
  • Follow all GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) as documented in the policy.
  • Follow all established safety rules and guidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook, and as stated in the various safety-related training programs. Understand and communicate all hazards and safety issues to the appropriate personnel. Properly use all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • May perform other related assignments at the direction of supervision, such as projects, equipment rebuilds and position coverage.

Reporting Relationship: This position reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor.

Education/Experience: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the essential functions. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform essential functions.

Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates Degree in Industrial Maintenance with Electrical Classroom Theory is preferred. In order to advance into higher levels of our skills program an Associates Degree in Industrial Maintenance with Electrical Classroom Theory is necessary. Prior experience in a manufacturing environment required. Previous experience operating or maintaining blow-molding, one-step and/or injection-molding machines preferred. Strong knowledge of safe work practices in a manufacturing environment required.

Interpersonal Skills: Good written and verbal communications skills are required. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English. Incumbent must possess strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.

Technical Skills: Must have strong mechanical aptitude. Incumbent must own or be able to provide general mechanic's tools. Must be familiar with hand tools and maintenance practices. Good general mathematics skills required. Must complete required training in all machines in order to understand proper mold change procedures. Must be familiar with all sections of Master Process Book. Must be able to use necessary computer applications (including FlexNet, FMS, SAP & Lotus Notes).

Other: Strong organizational skills required. Incumbent must be able to plan own work activities based upon production schedule. Must be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Incumbent must be able to occasionally work past normal shift change to complete preventive maintenance activities, repairs or related assignments. Incumbent must be willing to demonstrate schedule flexibility as business needs require as well as for coverage for vacations and other absences.

Physical: Must be capable of standing and walking on production floor for length of production shift. Will be required to lift/carry up to 60 lbs. occasionally. Must occasionally squat, bend, kneel, reach, etc., in order to carry out essential functions of the position.
