Materials Supervisor

About the Role

The Materials Supervisor continuously improves the facility's production planning, inventory control, customer service, and logistics. The position provides support to the Production, Maintenance, and Warehouse Departments in order to provide high quality containers in greater numbers as a superior level of service to the customer. The Materials Supervisor will also directly oversea materials employees and will act in accordance with and administer all company and plant policies, and local and federal laws and regulations.

  • Customer service. Must be able to work with our customers in a professional manner at all times. This includes verbal and electronic communications.
  • Performs production planning on a daily basis and monthly scheduling to maximize equipment efficiencies.
  • Enter sales orders and subsequent changes to guarantee the delivery of customer requirements.
  • Purchase the raw materials and shipping materials needed by the production departments to manufacture quality containers efficiently.
  • Communicates directly with customers to satisfy product and delivery needs, information or planning requirements, and materials specifications.
  • Communicate with production, maintenance, and other internal personnel the scheduling needs for both injection and blowmold.
  • Supervises and assists with inventory control through cycle counting, production scheduling, and warehousing.
  • Assists and performs regular maintenance of manufacturing data base to provide optimum use and accurate reporting.
  • Supervisory responsibilities - training to manage the materials and warehouse departments. This encompasses the warehouse supervisor, materials specialist, resin handler, and seasonal materials clerk. Indirect responsibilities include the line drivers, materials handlers, shipping coordinators and loaders. Responsibilities include compliance of all company policies including continuous improvement.
  • Computer skills. Must be proficient with various computer programs and systems to include, but not limited to MS Word, Excel, SAP, MII, Email, Ariba, EM6, etc...
  • Generate daily, weekly, monthly, and long-term schedules and reports.
  • Maintains safe working conditions by observing, investigating, and taking corrective action on unsafe conditions or acts and holding self and all employees accountable to plant safety and accident prevention policies
  • Observes materials' operations to assure compliance with standards in regards to quality, GMP, safety, production standards, work rules, and efficient operation of equipment
  • Identifies areas of concern in materials operation, conducts investigations, and implements corrective actions to eliminate deviations
  • Manages labor hours and assignment of direct reports to prevent unfavorable labor variance
  • Trains current and new employees on all company and plant policies, safe and efficient operation of equipment, and job-related tasks
  • Identifies training gaps and recommends solutions
  • Conducts and participates in investigations and progressive discipline to address violations of company and plant policies in a fair and consistent manner
  • Evaluates employee performance, including conducting performance reviews, establishing action plans for low performance, and identifying and partnering with high-potential employees to create development plans for short and long-term career goals
  • Partners with employees to provide training and support in career development and step progression in line with plant guidelines
  • Promotes teamwork and fosters a positive work environment for overall employee engagement
  • Performs other duties as assigned
