General Responsibilities
The Business & Computers Department at Howard Community College is seeking individuals who would like to apply for adjunct (part-time) faculty for Cyber Technology, including positions in Computer Science, Application Development, Cloud Operations and Security (esp. AWS), Cybersecurity, Computer Forensics, Cisco Networking, Network Security, Unix/Linux. This pool will be utilized to fill part-time openings to fill available sections.

This is a place where you can share your knowledge with the next generation of students. Join our team of dedicated instructors to inspire and educate the next generation of technologists and earn additional income while conveying your passion and expertise to a diverse and motivated student population.

Adjuncts can teach in one of the above mentioned program areas and may also be eligible for opportunities to serve as mentors for student clubs such as Cyber Dragons and Women in Cybersecurity.

Work Performed

  • Teaching of courses including CMSY-141 (Computer Science/C++), CMSY-158 (Fundamentals and Practice for the Network+ Exam), CMSY-163 (Intro. to Firewalls/Network Security), CMSY-172 (JavaScript), CMSY-176 (Cybersecurity Fundamentals/Practice), CMSY-255 (Intro. to Unix/Linux), CMSY-256 (Linux Administration), CMSY-262 (Encryption and Secure Communications), CMSY-263 (Ethical Hacking and Cyber Defense), or CSCO-293 (Enterprise Networking, Security, and Automation)
  • Plan, organize, and teach curriculum content in alignment with course objectives.
  • Use applicable technology and pedagogical principles, teach course content via an appropriate delivery format (may include face-to-face, hybrid, online, and remote instruction).
  • Complete required institutional trainings and professional development.
  • Follow department and division requirements for preparing a course syllabus.
  • Plan and deliver appropriate instructional activities that promote student engagement and learning.
  • Evaluate student performance using assessment tools as directed by the department
  • Inform students in a timely manner of their progress. Maintain an up-to-date electronic grade book and enter final grades by the established due date.
  • Comply with attendance and grading requirements as established for the course.
  • Participate in departmental evaluation and course assessment processes as needed.
  • Maintain regular communication with students, including timely replies to student emails. Use the assigned HCC email for communication with the department and with students.
  • Obtain and maintain certifications as required by 3rd party content providers, including Cisco Academy and AWS Academy

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required.
  • For Cybersecurity positions, preferred technical qualifications include certifications including CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, AWS Cloud Practitioner, CISSP, SANS, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), CISCO
  • For Cybersecurity positions, knowledge of AWS, Azure, Linux, Firewalls, Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems, Penetration Testing and Vulnerability Assessment are strongly desired
