General Responsibilities |
The Science, Engineering, and Technology Division (
SET) is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated adjunct instructors to daytime and evening courses, including lecture and lab instruction. Classes are offered in a variety of formats, including face-to-face, fully online, and hybrid modes of instruction. Weekday, evening, and Saturday teaching opportunities are available.
Join our team of dedicated instructors to inspire and educate the next generation of scientists, engineers, and technologists, and to instill fundamental scientific competence in students across the college. Enjoy small class sizes, supportive coordinators, well-equipped classrooms, and top-of-the-line lab facilities and equipment. The
SET Division employs over 100 adjuncts each semester and offers an array of courses in these subjects:
- Anatomy & Physiology
- Astronomy
- Biology (micro, genetics, cell, etc)
- Biomedical Equipment Technology (BMET)
- Chemistry (organic and inorganic)
- Computer-Aided Design
- Construction Management
- Electronics
- Engineering
- Engineering Technology, including Additive Manufacturing
- Environmental Science
- Gaming & Simulation Design
- Geology
- Meteorology
- Oceanography
- Physics
Note that applications are reviewed periodically by department chairs and course coordinators on an as-needed basis to staff courses in fall, winter, spring, and summer terms. Approximately 10-30 new adjuncts are hired every year. Your application enters you into an adjunct pool that is monitored during specific times of year, not continuously.

Work Performed |
Candidates should be prepared to engage modern learners through effective and rigorous instruction that utilizes appropriate technology and employs teaching strategies that accommodate diverse learning styles. Adjunct faculty are expected to:
- Plan, organize, and teach curriculum content in alignment with course objectives.
- Use applicable technology and pedagogical principles, teach course content via an appropriate delivery format (may include face-to-face, hybrid, online, and remote instruction).
- Complete required institutional trainings and professional development.
- Follow department and division requirements for preparing a course syllabus.
- Plan and deliver appropriate instructional activities that promote student engagement and learning.
- Evaluate student performance using assessment tools as directed by the department
- Inform students in a timely manner of their progress. Maintain an up-to-date electronic grade book and enter final grades by the established due date.
- Comply with attendance and grading requirements as established for the course.
- Participate in departmental evaluation and course assessment processes as needed.
- Maintain regular communication with students, including timely replies to student emails. Use the assigned HCC email for communication with the department and with students.

- Prior teaching experience is preferred.
