Required Education:
An Associate's degree with coursework in computer science, computer information systems, media arts, digital arts, library technology, or a related field.
Required Experience:

  • Three (3) years of experience in coordinating or providing technical support in a collaborative environment.
  • One (1) year of the required experience must be in a lead or supervisory capacity.

Position Purpose:
Oversees the computers and technology in the Library learning spaces including lab computers, classrooms, study rooms, and Makerspace. Oversees student workers and the functioning of the student help desk. Maintains a service-oriented and technology-rich environment within the Library for students.
Essential Functions:

  • Recruits, trains, and oversees student workers to staff the student technology help desk and the makerspace in the Library.
  • Coordinates the creation of help documentation for student workers and Library users.
  • Oversees configuration of software, workstation setup, and ongoing support, and troubleshooting and problem-solving for Library staff and public workstations in the Library.
  • Helps to design, implement new tools and processes, and oversee the Library Makerspace.
  • Acts as a liaison between the Library, Academic Technology, and Information Technology divisions.
  • Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervision Statement:
Reports to and works under the overall policy guidance of the Dean of the Library. Work is performed independently based on previous knowledge and professional judgment, according to local, state and federal regulations, applicable laws, College policies, and program guidelines. Work is reviewed by the supervisor for the effective coordination of the project/program and the quality of services provided to the target population by staff.

This position assists with the coordination and leads the work of student employees, volunteers and/or student assistants. This position plans work, assigns tasks, provides priorities and trains staff. This position is available to answer questions and troubleshoot problems on a daily basis and may have substantial input into hiring decisions and performance evaluations.
Physical Demands/Working Environment:
This position works indoors and is exposed to usual office working conditions that includes office noises and interruptions, such as printers, telephones, and visitors. This position requires that an employee be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time; perform cognitive and psychometric work for more than three (3) hours a day. Work may require transporting materials up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Work safely.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of libraries, their mission and work environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; including being able to communicate technical concepts effectively in individual and group settings to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, provide excellent customer service, and facilitate conflict resolution strategies.
  • Familiarity with best practices for student training and the development of learning outcomes.
  • Must be proficient with computer technologies; understand hardware, software, databases, software licensing, Microsoft Office and its applications, GSuite, software programming concepts and languages, and IT networking concepts.
  • Ability to work with education-related technology and systems such as learning management systems, productivity software, and associated education technology.
  • Possess strong organizational, project management, and planning skills.
  • Familiarity with Makerspace concepts, technology, and their connection to learning.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with and contribute to a diverse workplace through ideas or experience.
  • Provide support to employees working to meet accreditation standards through evaluation and assessment of student outcomes.
