Job Description SUMMARY

Controls the process, maintains quality standards and ensures continuous improvement of the total packaging operation: palletizers, strappers, AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle), wrappers and dunnage sorter.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Leads the packaging team members assigned to the shift and is the first point of contact for operators.

Ensures team members are working in a safe manner and identifies and corrects unsafe work practices.

Ensures plant quality standards are being met and maintained by the department.

Controls the process of multiple packaging machines using written work instructions, visual management, and computer interface.

Evaluates and improves operator's skill level and assist in administering levels testing.

Troubleshoots and performs adjustments to the machines to correct improper functions.

Assists with new machine setups.

Performs preventive maintenance on machines.

Reviews process data daily to ensure department is meeting or exceeding efficiency requirements.

Completes downtime reports and error logs.

Effectively communicates issues to the shift supervisor, packaging technicians, and production manager.

Maintains visual management boards.

Provides coverage for operator breaks.

Attends and participates in Packaging Team daily meetings.

Ensures the department maintains a clean work environment.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION

Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand or walk for 12 hours, and is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stoop and kneel, and climb stairs. The employee is regularly required to communicate with other employees and be aware of sounds in the plant. The employee must also frequently lift and/or move 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
