Job Description

Works with basic trade practices in more than one of the following fields: carpentry, masonry, painting, plumbing, electrical, or other building trades. Frequently assists classified skilled craftsmen (painters, electricians, carpenters, or operating engineers). Maintains kitchen equipment, medical, gas, water, and waste systems. Lubricates equipment, changes belts, and performs other preventive and corrective maintenance on air handling equipment. Services vehicles, air compressors, vacuum pumps, water softeners, smoke eaters, vent fans, and ceiling fans. Work includes arc welding and casualty prevention. Receives direction or instructions on a daily basis regarding tasks to be completed and priorities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • High school diploma or the equivalent and two years experience in more than one of the mechanical building trades required.
  • Ability to interpret and work from sketches required.
  • Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, and materials used in general maintenance and repair work required.
  • Basic working knowledge of the principles and practices of several of the building trades such as electrical, painting, carpentry, plumbing or masonry required.
  • Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades required.
  • If driving is a requirement for the employee, he/she must meet the requirements specified in the Fleet Driving Safety and Compliance Policy and must continue to meet these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds to carry equipment and supplies.
  • Good dexterity, balance, and coordination required to work from ladders and scaffolding.
  • Position requires standing, lifting, reaching, climbing, stooping, bending, pulling, squatting, and walking.
  • Must be able to wear half mask respirator to comply with OSHA requirements.
  • Must be able to operate hand tools or power tools of the trades being performed.
