Global Technical Director - Aerospace Business

PPG seeks Internal Applicants & External for: Global Technical Director - Aerospace Business; reporting to the SVP & Chief Technology Officer with dotted line to VP Global Aerospace.

Aerospace is a key business in PPG and a strategic supplier to the Aerospace industry. The Aerospace business has eight manufacturing locations and global presences in all geographic regions The role will focus on developing and deploying an effective technology strategy across our broad array of business and product lines in the aerospace business. With intense growth and ever-increasing competition in our aerospace business, product, technology and technical service leadership have been become more critical to the aerospace business success. The functional excellence throughout the global aerospace technical organization (e.g. advantaged products, robust product launch, complexity reduction, formula cost reduction and sharing of technologies and resources across PPG) becomes an increasingly important contributor to the achievement of profitable sales growth. Your performance and that of your team will therefore be critical to our long-term business success.

In addition, this position will be an important member of the Global Technical Leadership Team & Aerospace leadership team that will drive technology investments, business model changes, go-to-market strategies, intellectual property strategies and both organic and inorganic growth strategies and execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate as a member of the Aerospace Global Leadership team to set policies and strategies for operations via leadership team meetings, the long-range planning process (LRP) and Business Strategy Review (BSR) processes, and the business alignment matrix. Provide cross-PPG leadership in technical policies, procedures, and product development activities as part of the global technology leadership team under the chief technology officer.
• Direct and manage all functions in compliance with PPG Blueprint objectives, the PPG P&L process, the PPG corporate EHS policy, PPG Intellectual Property (IP) policies, the PPG Quality policy, PPG Business Conduct policies, the PPG Code of Ethics, Responsible Care, EEO accountabilities and other governmental regulatory requirements, and Customer quality programs such as AS9100.
• Develop and implement key global technical strategies, including new research and/or product development programs and scale-up activities, for all coatings, all substrate protection coatings, sealants, engineered materials, transparency, packaging, and all related technologies for the aerospace industry.
• Lead the Global Technical management team, provide the vision, direction and clarity of execution required by the business BSR plan to deliver cost effective strategies that will enable stability in profit contributions for the business unit.
• Coordinate and integrate aerospace development activities and Product Management directives with all aerospace technical strategies to ensure alignment by all Customer team technical functions with ongoing market trends/profitability targets.
• Support the Platform Managers and sales/service organizations on product acceptance and market needs to ensure customer satisfaction, the development of effective technologies and appropriate pricing strategies.
• Partner with global R&D colleagues and leverage technical expertise across PPG to potentially benefit multiple PPG market applications.
• Lead the PPG Way - Build diverse and inclusive workplaces that attract and retain talented people seeking rewarding long- term careers in the coatings industry.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a master's level degree (while PhD is strongly preferred) in a technical discipline plus minimum of 20 years' experience in progressively more senior technical leadership roles with a proven track record of leadership, technical achievements, general business/financial practices and people management.
• Ability to create a vision, lead a large team and interface effectively with all level and functions of the organization.
• Experience and skills of working effectively in a matrixed organization will help your adaption to this job.
• Knowledge on managing the product stewardship in a global market environment is required.
• Finally the proven records on managing XSBU/complicated projects and capital projects (e.g. lab opening/closure/transfer/upgrading) is one of the key job competencies.
