Primary Purpose of Department
The mission of the Office of Assessment and Accreditation is to support the assessment, planning, accreditation and professional development needs of the University community and higher education communities around the state. This Office has four functional areas: 1) assist academic and administrative departments in planning, improving key processes and assessing performance; 2) provide support to decision makers for translating planning, outcomes, and survey analyses into strategic; 3) oversee and monitor the implementation, evaluation, and management of divisional effectiveness activities and institutional accreditation compliance; and 4) support assessment activities and promote the use of results for quality enhancement.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Director of University Accreditation and Assessment Systems Management has primary responsibility for supporting the work of individuals responsible for preparing documentation for Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges ( SACSCOC) substantive change approval and fifth-year and decennial compliance reports, and preparing for on-site visits by SACSCOC representatives. In addition, this position will assist users in documenting plans, assessments, and accreditation evidence in the University's assessment management system. This will include but is not limited to designing and facilitating institutional educational opportunities, providing technical assistance, and serving as a management system administrator.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
The Director of University Accreditation and Assessment Systems Management will assist in the following University accreditation activities: researching, editing, and co-authoring narratives; reviewing and identifying supporting documentation; leading a document management team; developing new institutional processes and procedures, and assisting in preparations for onsite, offsite, and electronic accreditation compliance reviews. Additionally, this position will develop risk analyses and follow-up action items for accreditation compliance.
The Director of University Accreditation and Assessment Systems Management will provide leadership, direction, and support in the use of the University's management system for evidencing institutional effectiveness. The Director will develop and lead assessment management software workshops, webinars, etc. for faculty and staff and collaborate with other members of the Office of Assessment and Accreditation to develop and create training sessions on institutional effectiveness. Also, the Director will manage the vendor relationship representing end-user needs and staying current with vendor releases.
The Director of University Accreditation and Assessment Systems Management will provide support to faculty and staff about best practices in the utilization of the assessment management software to improve institutional effectiveness. The Director will serve as the technical expert for the assessment management software and for how it is best utilized with other assessment tools and will collaborate with CTL, Undergraduate Education, colleges, and other departments and units to provide a holistic approach to assessment. Also, the Director will support the evaluation of assessment tools and technologies in the learning environment such as adaptive courseware, equity-based assessment, competency-based education, prior learning assessment, formative assessment, etc.
Minimum Education/Experience

  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Also required is a minimum of three years of full-time experience at an institution of higher education, taking an active role in institutional and/or programmatic accreditation compliance and one or more of the following processes: student learning outcome planning and assessment, strategic and/or operational planning and assessment, and educational professional development.


Experience:

  • Proven leadership in preparing institutional and/or programmatic accreditation compliance reports and documentation
  • Proficiency with assessment tools/accreditation software and websites.
  • Engagement in the principles and practices of educational planning, assessment, and quality improvement.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate multiple, simultaneous projects at moderate to high levels of complexity.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with a range of constituents
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Excellent collaboration and team-building skills
  • Ability to work within tight timeframes and meet strict deadlines
  • Ability to utilize and leverage technology to aid in tracking and assessing stated goals and objectives.
  • Ability to create data visualizations using Tableau or similar software

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • A doctorate is preferred.


Experience:

  • Prior successful experience with SACSCOC
  • Prior experience with assessment management software for planning, assessment, and accreditation
  • Engagement in teaching and/or facilitating workshops and training with faculty and staff.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of strategic planning and student learning outcomes assessment processes.
  • Intellectual curiosity and an ability to think outside the box.
  • Knowledge of instructional design principles and methodologies.
