Position Summary

Provides safe efficient age specific nursing care for inmates at the Portage County Correctional Facilities using the nursing process in order to assist them to attain, maintain, regain, and sustain optimal health status

Essential Functions



  • High level of autonomy in clinical skills, critical thinking, and decision making with minimal supervision.
  • Functions in accordance with the professional standards of the Ohio board of nursing.
  • Completes/submits required documentation accurately and in real time.
  • Evaluates all new inmates for a complete history and physical, including PPD test.
  • Respond to all medical incidents within the jail.
  • Completes medication administration to inmates within the jail according to best practice model.
  • Delivers effective relationship based nursing care.
  • Demonstrates technical skills in care delivery that result in safe practice and positive care outcomes.
  • Demonstrates nursing care delivery that is in compliance with all state, federal and local regulations.
  • Demonstrates clear communication and effective collaboration to optimize patient care and clinical operations.
  • Maintains professional accountability and boundaries.
  • Adheres to Service Excellence Standards of Behavior


Additional Responsibilities



  • Refers to mental health services as needed.

  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
