Position Summary

Manage, install, repair and maintain plumbing systems in the assigned facilities.

Essential Functions



  • The Plumber Mechanical will manage, install, repair and maintain plumbing systems and the craft.
  • Manages daily craft assignments and assures work orders are completed according to the SLA's
    Cuts, bends, threads and fits pipes with adjoining pipe assemblies.
    Caulks leaks and opens clogged drains.
    Installs sinks, toilets, water heaters and related plumbing fixtures.
    Inspects, installs, repairs and replaces pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures to maintain the heating, cooling, water, sewer, gas, and drainage systems.
  • Maintains knowledge of the hospital plumbing systems and the operation of those systems.
  • Maintains proficient working knowledge of Plumbing and Building Codes, as well as, all OSHA and local requirements related to all assigned work; inspects completed work to ensure compliance with engineering specifications and local building code(s).
  • Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures: to include reporting all accidents and injuries in a timely manner (performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures).
  • Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments and/or all training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
  • Estimates time, labor and/or material costs on plumbing projects adhering to purchasing policy/procedures.
  • Initiate/document all work in CMMS system; manage and delegate work orders both reactive and preventative.
  • Shift work may vary based upon hospital demand and emergencies.

  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
