JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Communication Arts and Sciences (CAS) at the Pennsylvania State University, University Park, Pennsylvania, USA, seeks to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor whose scholarship centers on interpersonal, relational, and/or family communication. The anticipated start date for this position is Fall 2025.

This full-time position will be filled by a scholar who will contribute to the mission of the CAS department with regard to the scientific study of communication. The successful candidate will complement the current CAS communication science faculty's focus on interpersonal communication and relationships, computer-mediated communication, social influence, health communication, and group dynamics. They will also demonstrate an interest in theoretically grounded scholarship and possess expertise in quantitative methods.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Communication or a related field by the time of the appointment, as well as have a demonstrated record of scholarly achievement and teaching effectiveness. The responsibilities of an Assistant Professor in CAS include: conducting research, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, developing courses in the area of specialty, supervising theses and dissertations, and contributing to other departmental activities.

The committee welcomes applications from communication science scholars who are from and/or conduct research within underrepresented communities. Candidates must demonstrate an appreciation for working alongside diverse colleagues in the humanities and the social sciences. In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity.
