TheDepartments of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and the Institute of Computational and Data Sciences at Penn StateUniversityinvite applications foran open rank tenure-line faculty positionfor experts in thedevelopmentorapplication of machine learning and artificial intelligence in the areas of Chemical, Molecular, or Structural Biology.Thechemical and biological fields are awash in data fromdiverse sourcesincluding, but not limited to, next-generation sequencing, mass spectrometry, Cryo-EM, and crystallography.There is greatpotentialfor computational techniques torapidly advance many areasof chemistry and biology. Penn State hascommitted to beinga leader inthe development and application of AI to a variety of fields through investmentsincluding afaculty cluster hirein this area. Applicants will find a thrivingcomputationalcommunity at Penn Statesupported bythe Institute for Computational and Data Sciences, andtheCenter for Artificial Intelligence Foundations and Scientific Applications, as well as experimental experts in chemical, molecular, and structural biology. Candidates should have a PhD and a record of accomplishment in developing or applying machine learningin one or more of these areas. Candidates whohave an experimental component to their research areencouragedto apply, although a strong computational component is required.Successful candidates for Assistant Professorwilldemonstrateastrong research potential and commitment to interdisciplinary research and education. Candidates forAssociate Professorwill have a strong track record of research, publications, and funding. Candidates forFull Professorwill have a track record of research, publications, and funding that distinguishes them nationally and internationally.

The Institute for Computational and Data Sciences (ICDS), one of five university-wide interdisciplinary institutes, is home for advanced interdisciplinary computation and data-enabled collaborative science at Penn State. ICDS fosters both high-impact computational and data science methodologies as well as their applications to address a broad range of scientific and societal challenges, multifaceted models, and their societal impacts. ICDS supports a vibrant community of scholars, which includes more than 30 co-hired faculty and over 300 affiliated researchers with access to ICDS advanced research computing infrastructure called Roar and a cadre of technical experts, research scientists, and engineers.
