Who You Are:

Versar is seeking Jr. Environmental Scientists who are passionate about a broad range of environmental service areas including climate adaptation, ecological restoration, environmental compliance and remediation, NEPA and planning, and natural and cultural resources management. This is an entry-level job and an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to grow professionally while supporting interesting and diverse projects primarily for the Department of Defense (DoD). This role is organized under Versar's Environmental Management Group and offers a flexible, collaborative, and welcoming work environment. Candidates must be resourceful, motivated and open to supporting administrative and operations functions.

What You'll Do:

  • Fieldwork to support a wide range of remediation and environmental compliance projects (e.g., wetlands delineation, biological and ecological habitat and species surveys, Phase I Environmental Baseline surveys, construction monitoring, remedial ground water sampling, cultural resources surveys).
  • Research, data collection and analysis, and technical writing to support development of a variety of documents (e.g., remedial action and monitoring reports, Environmental Assessments [EAs], natural and cultural resources survey and planning documents, permitting support)
  • Participation in internal team meetings and modeling Versar's highest quality professional and technical standards during interactions with clients.

What You'll Bring:

  • BA or BS degree in environmental science or a related field (e.g., wildlife biology, ecology, botany, geology, hydrology, environmental engineering, anthropology).
  • 1-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Motivation to accomplish tasks independently with limited supervision, as well as in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong writing, communication, and computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Projects, etc.) as well as strong problem solving and research abilities.
  • Ability to support projects that occasionally require travel with overnight stays.
  • Interest and ability to interact with a wide range of technical subject matter experts and multi-task working on multiple projects within scope/budget/schedule expectations provided by project managers.
  • A strong interest in professional growth within the environmental consulting industry.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US or will be authorized by the successful candidate's start date.
  • Ability to obtain security clearance for work on DoD Installations.
  • Successful results of pre-employment screenings, including federal background check, MVR (Motor Vehicle Record), and drug screen.

Location Requirements

This position can accommodate remote work but ability to report to an office location part-time is ideal (Washington, DC, Columbia, MD, Newport News, VA, Richardson and El Paso, TX).

Compensation

Expected Salary: $40,000 - $60,000
