This Opportunity

Versar Global Solutions seeks a full-time Highway Maintenance Technician II in Springfield, VA.

Your Impact

  • Operates rolling equipment (examples: mini-excavator, skid-steer, bush hog, zero-turn mower, etc.)
  • Repairs or installs concrete works for barrier wall, drainage, curb, and other limited works
  • Repairs guardrails, end treatments, or other traffic barriers.
  • Uses hand equipment, such as a trimmer, edger, pole-saw, blower
  • Cleans and grades ditches, drainage structures, road shoulders, and slopes; removes litter and debris
  • Repairs fences, signs, and other roadway assets
  • Applies herbicide if licensed or overseen by a licensee
  • Responds to incidents and installs Temporary Traffic Control with oversight and independently after certification test
  • Enters time and work into smartphone, tablet, and computer (Company provided)
  • Perform on-call duties as assigned (with overtime as applicable).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience
  • Three (3) or more years of overall work experience
  • Equipment operation, concrete, guardrail, or other specialized experience
  • Valid driver's license without suspensions or restrictions.
  • Must be available for on-call rotation
  • Must be able to communicate with managers and coworkers in English effectively
  • Must have transportation to and from the Company office
  • Be able to lift fifty to sixty pounds (50 - 60 lbs.)
  • Be able to work overtime, nights, and weekends as scheduled
  • Shall complete the Basic and Intermediate Work Zone Traffic Control, National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100's, 200's, 300's, 400's, 700, and 800's training and the VDOT Level 1 Incident Commander Training course within three (3) months of assuming the role. (Company paid)
  • Must maintain an appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Be able to work outdoors in a variety of weather environments
  • Be able to work along commuter highways with traffic passing by at varying rates of speed
  • Successful results of pre-employment screenings, including federal background check, MVR, and drug screen
  • Comply with the Company's Drug and Alcohol policy
  • Must be authorized to work in the US or will be approved by the successful candidate's start date

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ year of experience working in roadway operations, construction, utilities, or landscaping
  • Working knowledge of standard landscaping practices, including but not limited to mowing, weed eating, corrective pruning, and fertilization.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment
  • MOT Certified
  • Agricultural Pesticide Applicator's License
  • Ability to drive manual transmission
  • CDL A or B
