Responsibilities

We are seeking an Endoscopy Nurse (PRN), a nurse who will work in our Ambulatory Surgery department at South Kansas City Surgicenter a member of Prime Healthcare. As an Endoscopy RN, also known as a Gastroenterology Nurse (GI RN), you will specialize in assisting with endoscopic procedures. Someone who is highly skilled in both nursing and technical aspects of endoscopic procedures, ensuring patient safety and the successful completion of diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. This position is on a per diem basis, meaning PRN.

Shift's Available: Days (No weekend, nights, or holidays)

Employment Type: Per Diem

Hours: Varied (No Call)

**If you are a Registered Nurse with experience in Outpatient Surgery, GI Lab, or Endoscopic Procedures you are encouraged to apply!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to):

    conduct a pre-procedure assessment, review the patient's medical history, allergies, and current medications
  • assess patients' health status, focusing on symptoms related to the digestive system, such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and gastrointestinal bleeding
  • assist gastroenterologists with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, such as endoscopies, colonoscopies, sigmoidoscopies, and biopsies
  • start intravenous (IV) lines for administering sedation or other necessary medications
  • ensure all endoscopic equipment, including scopes and monitoring devices, are sterilized and functioning correctly
  • work closely with the gastroenterologist or surgeon, handle instruments, adjust equipment, and monitor patient's vital signs
  • monitor the patient in the recovery area, assess their vital signs and level of consciousness as they wake from sedation
  • post-procedure care, provide care instructions, include dietary advice, activity restrictions, and signs of potential complications to watch for after the procedure


Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

  • current and valid state RN License
  • current BCLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current
  • ACLS 30 days upon hire and maintain current
  • Minimum of one year experience in an acute care or outpatient surgery setting or G.I. lab
