In the role of BES Structural Business Class Leader, we'll count on you to:



  • Lead, manage, and develop the Kansas City Building Engineering Services structural engineering team for vertical construction work, with immediate focus on healthcare, industrial, and data center projects.
  • Work across HDR business groups in multiple market sectors, including commercial, civic, industrial, federal, water, and transportation, to coordinate and perform structural engineering services for our clients.
  • Recruit, select, and develop structural staff, including engineers and technicians.
  • Be involved in marketing planning, proposals, and interviews to healthcare, industrial, and technological clients, following up in all cases with excellence in project delivery.
  • Function as design lead or assistant project manager for structural engineering production on projects as staff is developed.
  • Assist in the responsibility for operations of the structural work group, including staff development, profitability, morale, and quality control.
  • Assist in ensuring that all work is planned, organized, controlled, checked, and evaluated through proactive project management.
  • Implement, monitor, and support company policy.
  • Work cooperatively with National Directors and marketing staff in local and national marketing and production efforts.
  • Actively participate in work-sharing and structural practice development with a nation-wide network of HDR structural engineers.

Preferred Qualifications



  • Demonstrated organizational and practice development skills.
  • Familiarity with requirements of the International Building Code, ASCE-7, and industry-specific design standards.
  • Experience managing Revit production.
  • Experience and interest in sustainable design and LEED certification desired but not required.
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments
  • Good leadership and organizational skills
  • Master's degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering with Structural emphasis.
  • Previous healthcare or data center/mission critical facility experience with an architect/engineer or engineering consulting firm.
  • Commitment to being an active participant in our employee-owned culture is a must.
  • Preference given to local candidates.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in related field
  • Maintains a professional or Engineering registration and has related technical experience
  • Experienced in development and management of diverse teams
  • Works cooperatively with other business class directors, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts
  • Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
