  • Use and implementation of standard drafting practices will be required. Knowledge of National CAD standards, and the mandatory use of HDR CAD standards will be required.
  • Performing design tasks to clearly illustrate constructible/practical plans, details and technical specifications.
  • Use Civil 3D to create and analyze grading, surfaces, points, volumes, alignments, and sections.
  • Implement 3D generation of civil and structural features using HDR's standards and tools.
  • Implement CAD detailing of reinforced concrete, steel, and timber structures with minimal help from Sr. CAD and Sr. Engineer. Field observations to collect required dimensions, and other data to assist in the design, and to verify general conformance with contract documents during construction
  • Generating plans, sections and details using AutoCAD Civil 3D from sketches and/or by verbal instructions
  • Making changes to electronic drawings using redlines provided by others
  • Printing/Plotting and binding drawing sets for submittals and electronically through the use of Bluebeam or Adobe
  • Implementation and use of HDR and/or client CAD standards on projects
  • Adherence to all QC protocols; checking and adjustment of work product prior to submission to others for QC confirmations
  • Perform checking, and associated documentation, of other work products for adherence to QC protocols and standards
  • Perform horizontal datum conversions using the online NGS Coordinate Conversion and Transformation Tool; perform vertical datum conversions with information provided by surveyor and/or engineer
  • Obtain aerials using ArcGIS
  • Manage projects using AutoCAD Sheet Set Manager interface
  • Work as lead CAD on a few large projects and learn to put together a drawing package together without much assistance from Engineers or Sr. CAD.


Work towards HDR and local group betterment:



  • Work towards process improvement in line with HDR standards and Ports and Maritime specific standards. Define or identify tools/processes needed to make work more efficient.
  • Delegate work to 1 or 2 CAD techs and be responsible for overall work product in terms of consistency, QA/QC, and deadlines.
  • QC work product of other CAD techs (CAD standards, spellings, datum, drawing precision, etc)
  • Assist the Best Practice Group.


The ideal candidate will have:



  • Design and drafting experience with heavy industrial and ports and maritime related projects along with construction observation or administration experience and/or evidence of other mechanical aptitude
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills for interaction between peers, management and other design and production staff
  • The ability to understand, process, record and produce work products based on written and oral explanations
  • Professional attitude with a strong work ethic to function in a fast-paced production environment.


Preferred Qualifications



  • General knowledge of civil and structural drafting. Experience may include detailing of steel, concrete, and timber structures, production of plan sets for civil and marine projects. Multi-disciplined experience (mechanical, electrical, piping) is preferred
  • Associate degree from an accredited school or college in CAD Drafting or related curriculum
  • Relevant experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D (2017 or Higher), MicroStation, CADWORX and Microsoft Office, ArcGIS, MS Word, MS Excel software. Experience with graphic information systems (GIS) which map geographic areas by capturing and storing data sets.


Required Qualifications
  • Technical degree or a combination of education and related industry experience
  • A minimum of 5 years related industry experience
  • Advanced skillset of 3D design software and document management infrastructure
  • Advanced skillset of 3D Coordination tool
  • Competency of Microsoft Office products and communication tools
  • Advanced understanding of engineering or architectural concepts
  • Knowledge of industry standards and practices, along with discipline codes and specifications
  • Excellent communication skills, attention to detail and organizational traits are essential
