SUMMARY:

The Lactation Counselor, reporting to Clinical Staff Manager, manages the needs and care of the breast-feeding family. Educates women, their partners, families, health professionals, and the community about breast-feeding and human lactation. Provides patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of their license, certification, registration, and/or assessed competencies. Practice will be in accordance with laws and regulations and will adhere to established policies, procedures and practice guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

Required

• High School Diploma/GED or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred

• Bachelor Degree

Experience

Required

• One or more years of breast-feeding experience. (i.e. International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) or certified lactation counselor (CLC).

Skills Cert Licenses

• International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) must be maintained continuously as a condition of continued employment
• BLS certification through the American Heart Association.
• Basic computer skills.
