Knowledge and Skills:
Work Environment: Potentially dangerous environment involving combustible chemicals and high temperature furnaces. Employees are required to become Hazmat trained. Room is temperature and humidity controlled. Dust collection and system in place. Safety glasses with side shields and Safety Shoes required. Self-contained breathing apparatus available in case of furnace malfunction. Environment monitored for hazardous gases. Noise levels not over eighty-five db for more than eight hours on a time weighted average. Hearing protection recommended and incumbent placed in a hearing preservation program. Physical Demands: Frequent standing, 8+ hours per 12-hr hour period of intermittent walking, occasional reaching, bending, kneeling, and squatting with break opportunities. Climbing a three-footstep stool and stretching in awkward positions. Normal strength required to assemble and disassemble furnace sections, as well as lifting objects weighing an average of twenty pounds (some reaching as much as, but not more than, thirty-three (33) pounds). Will be required to pass a Respirator Medical Evaluation and participate on the Plant Emergency SCBA response team for responding to gas emergencies. Must also obtain clearance from the Department of Homeland Security to work in CVD department. Self-contained breathing apparatus required for specific tasks.
