Job Description: The technical instructor is responsible for performing all aspects of instruction for assigned program to include, but not limited to, implementing, revising, and evaluating assigned program area curriculum; utilizing all resources available to innovate and to change to meet evolving program and industry needs. The technical instructor provides up-to-date skills training and instruction to meet the learning needs of students.

The Auto Collision Technology Instructor is responsible for performing all aspects of instruction for assigned program to include, but not limited to, implementing, revising, and evaluating assigned program area curriculum; utilizing all resources available to innovate and to change to meet evolving program and industry needs. The technical instructor provides up-to-date skills training and instruction to meet the learning needs of students.

Technical Instructors at TSTC benefit from a small class capacity, typically ranging between 5 to 20 students, with an average of 10 per class. Courses are structured to include a brief lecture session followed by hands-on laboratory activities, maximizing engagement and practical learning. While on campus, instructors are expected to be available for tutoring, supplementing scheduled teaching requirements. At TSTC, all technical courses incorporate in-person laboratory tasks. A typical day involves teaching two courses, with instructors potentially managing 3 to 4 courses depending on student enrollment.

Occasionally, instructors may be tasked with additional courses, reflecting fluctuating enrollment demands. The standard workday spans from 8 am to 5pm, with optional night or weekend commitments. Additionally, opportunities exist to provide extracurricular training for industry professionals.

Minimum Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills

  • Associates degree in related field or approved alternate certification/training.

  • Demonstrated competency in the field.

  • Demonstrate competency with use of technology that supports learning and teaching.

  • Maintain a flexible schedule, including availability for evening, weekend, or summer assignment, as appropriate.

  • Able to work effectively in a team environment and commitment to the mission and vision.

  • This job description covers a position in which the percentage of time spent on the essential functions will vary based on the workload and will ultimately be determined by the supervisor.

Preferred Skills

  • Associate of Applied Science Degree in Collision Technologies.

  • ASE Certificate.

  • I-CAR Certificate.

  • Knowledge of computer classroom technologies.

  • Experience working with a diverse/multicultural student body and/or workforce.

  • Knowledge in Canvas or other Learning Management Systems.

  • 3-5 years of industry experience.

  • Effective communication skills with all levels of industry partners, students, faculty, and key stakeholders.

  • Ability to translate technical data to a general audience.

  • Knowledge of and experience in auto body, paint and plastic repairs as well as structural repairs.

INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN & ASSESSMENT: Develop, revise, and continually update a relevant and progressive curriculum and instructional materials which are competency-based, current, consistent with employer expectations, and aligned with college standards. Assess the learning outcomes of students at the unit, course, and program level.

INSTRUCTIONAL DELIVERY: Prepare and deliver high quality instruction and facilitate the learning of students. Develop appropriate course syllabi and instructional plans, and organize daily classes utilizing a variety of creative/innovative techniques.

INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT: Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student records, maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety, equipment security, and ensure opportunities for student/participant evaluation.

STUDENT SUCCESS:(Retention & Placement): Perform student advisement such that students are provided with timely, accurate, and comprehensive information regarding career choices, career preparations, job opportunities, and other needed occupational information.

PROGRAM RECRUITMENT & PROMOTION: Participate in related tours and recruitment events. Assist in department/program planning for recruitment. Utilize program vitality data and evidence based practices to manage enrollment and meet department goals. Demonstrate a willingness to be of service and exhibits pleasant and courteous behavior toward customers (students, parents, employers, and media), organizational co-workers, and other general public contacts. Support all three product lines of TSTC (For credit programs, Non-credit/Workforce Training, and Dual Enrollment.) Other duties as assigned.

The Target Salary Range: $51,906.81 - $59,692.83
