Job Description: The technical instructor is responsible for performing all aspects of instruction for assigned program to include, but not limited to, implementing, revising, and evaluating assigned program area curriculum; utilizing all resources available to innovate and to change to meet evolving program and industry needs. The technical instructor provides up-to-date skills training and instruction to meet the learning needs of students.

Job Description

The Electric Power and Controls Instructor is responsible for performing all aspects of instruction for assigned program to include, but not limited to, implementing, revising, and evaluating assigned program area curriculum; and utilizing all resources available to innovate and to change to meet evolving program and industry needs. The Technical Instructor provides up-to-date skills training and instruction to meet the learning needs of students.

Technical Instructors at TSTC benefit from a small class capacity, typically ranging between 12 to 15 students, with an average of 15 per class. Courses are structured to include a brief lecture session followed by hands-on laboratory activities, maximizing engagement and practical learning. While on campus, instructors are expected to be available for tutoring, supplementing scheduled teaching requirements and student recruitment events. At TSTC, all technical courses incorporate in-person laboratory tasks. A typical day involves teaching one to two courses with instructors potentially managing 4 or more courses per semester, depending on student enrollment.

Occasionally, instructors may be tasked with additional courses, reflecting fluctuating enrollment demands. The standard workday spans from 8 am to 5pm, with optional night or weekend commitments. Additionally, opportunities exist to provide extracurricular training for industry professionals.

Preferred Skills:

  • 3-5 years of verifiable field experience.

  • Proven experience with troubleshooting electrical systems and components.

  • Experience with electrical testing activities as related to NETA standards or similar.

  • Familiarity of NFPA-70E electrical safe work practices.

  • Familiarity with electrical power generation, transmission, distribution, and consumer demand infrastructures.

  • Familiarity with AC/DC variable speed motor drives.

  • Familiarity with electrical maintenance activities.

Minimum Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills

  • Associates degree (or higher-level degree) in related field or approved alternate certification/training.

  • Demonstrated competency in the field.

  • Demonstrate competency with use of technology that supports learning and teaching.

  • Maintains a flexible schedule, including availability for evening, weekend, or summer assignment, as appropriate.

  • Able to work effectively in a team environment as well as commitment to the mission and vision.

Instructional Delivery:

Prepare and deliver high quality instruction and facilitate the learning of students. Develop appropriate course syllabi and instructional plans, and organize daily classes utilizing a variety of creative/innovative techniques.

Instructional Management:

Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student records, maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety, equipment security where applicable, and ensure opportunities for student/participant evaluation.

Student Retention & Placement:

Perform student advisement such that students are provided with timely, accurate, and comprehensive information. Collaborate with the Office of Student Success to ensure students receive current information on tutoring and other programs designed to increase retention.

Program Recruitment & Promotion:

Participate in related tours and recruitment events. Assist in department/program planning for recruitment.

Teamwork & Service:

Demonstrate a willingness to be of service and exhibits pleasant and courteous behavior toward customers (students, parents, employers, and media), organizational coworkers, and other general public contacts. Maintain flexibility, including availability for evening, weekend, or summer assignment, as appropriate, able to work effectively in a team environment, and be committed to the mission, vision and values of the college. The Target Hiring Range is $90,136.25 to $103,656.69

The final salary offer will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.
