Position Overview


Primary Purpose of Position
The person employed in this Postdoctoral Research Associate position will conduct research about the interaction between food protein and dietary polyphenols for allergenicity reduction and disease prevention.
This candidate is expected to have experience in scientific research and have peer-reviewed scientific publications and can provide technical assistance to graduate and undergraduate students working in the lab as needed.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is a public land grant high research activity university. The College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences ( CAES) has a rich history of innovation and application of cutting-edge technology. From our pioneering Laboratory Animal Science and Landscape Architecture programs to our award-winning Cooperative Extension and Agricultural Research programs, our faculty and staff serve today's needs while keeping an eye on the future. Our four academic departments are the Department of Agribusiness, Applied Economics and Agri-science Education; the Department of Animal Sciences; the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences; and the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Design. Within these departments, students will find a myriad of opportunities for classroom learning, research and field work. Through our Agricultural Research Program and our Cooperative Extension Program, we are able to research issues of importance to North Carolina and provide research-based outreach training to citizens across the state and around the world.
Minimum Requirements

  • Ph.D. in food science and technology/nutrition, biochemistry, or other closely related fields
  • Research experience in food polymers and bioactive compounds
  • Experience in analyzing bioactive compounds from food materials
  • Solid knowledge in protein chemistry, carbohydrate chemistry and lipid chemistry
  • Knowledge in the interactions among dietary components
  • Knowledge in microbiology
  • Excellent writing skill for publishing scientific results and assisting PI to write grant proposals
  • Excellent oral communication skill
  • Strong ability to work both independently and in a team environment



Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

  • Excellent skill in HPLC, FTIR and Electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, etc.)
  • Experience in student training and laboratory management
