About the Department
The College of Engineering, Office of Research Administration's mission and purpose is to provide resources to assist faculty and staff in seeking out funding opportunities and once funded, to monitor and ensure compliance with the University, Federal Government and Agency guidelines. The field of Research Administration is ever changing with the advancement and implementation of electronic research, University guidelines and agency guidelines. The Office of Research Administration is completely deadline driven whether it is at the hands of the University or the agency.
Essential Job Duties
Join the College of Engineering as an Assistant Director of Compliance, where you'll manage contract and grant accounts, oversee compliance with federal, state, and university guidelines, handle audits, manage external reporting, and create training content. Your role will ensure the financial health and compliance of our major Engineering Research Centers,as well as the newly awarded $25M STEPS Center from the NSF.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Contract and Grant Management: Administer and manage all contract and grant accounts, including ledger 3 accounts, gift accounts, and check processing for major centers within the College.
  • Compliance Oversight: Ensure compliance with Conflicts of Interest, Notices of Intent, and Responsible Conduct of Research, collaborating with the University Compliance Office and HR as needed.
  • Audit Management: Oversee annual audits of ledger 5 accounts, conduct in-person visits, and prepare reports for the Director of Research Administration.
  • Retro Salary Redistribution: Manage the retro 90-day salary redistribution process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and sufficient justification.
  • External Reporting: Collaborate with the Director on external reporting to NSF HERD, ASEE, and US News, involving data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Training Development: Create and present training content for departments and centers, customizing sessions to meet specific needs.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or Other Discipline related to the area of assignment with 12 Credit Hours of accounting coursework and three years of professional accounting experience, of which at least one is supervisory; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Other Required Qualifications

  • Expertise in research administration and financial management.
  • In-depth knowledge of CAS, UG, and other relevant guidelines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in financial reporting and compliance.
  • Experience in audit management and compliance oversight.
  • Proficient in Excel, word, access and powerpoint.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with large-scale research centers and NSF-funded projects.
  • Proficiency in developing and delivering training content.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across departments and centers.
  • 2 years in an accounting related field
