EHS Manager

Basic Function:

Functions as plant's first authority in all matters related to environmental, health and safety compliance. Acts as liaison with all Federal, State and local environmental, health & safety agencies and coordinates all necessary reporting requirements. Contributes to the attainment of plant safety goals. Assists Corporate EHS staff and local management in the development, implementation, review and continuous improvement of sound EHS policies, procedures and programs. Also assist in the comprehensive Quality Management System for OE liner manufacturing that enables attainment of objectives in product quality and cost control; and that meets customer needs and expectations.





Specific Responsibilities:



  1. Ensure that the environmental management system conforms to the requirements of ISO 14001.
  2. Report on the performance of the environmental management system, including environmental performance, to top management.
  3. Coordinate environmental, health and safety policy with emphasis on protection of health and ecosystems as well as compliance with environmental and health regulations.
  4. Implement environmental, occupational health and safety compliance programs.
  5. Furnish timely advice to management on the environmental, health and safety impact and exposure risks related to operations and/or changes in processes.
  6. Communicate and assure compliance with Local, State & Federal staff on regulatory matters.
  7. Prepare applications for permits to install, operate or modify pollution control systems.
  8. Coordinate the training of personnel to develop safe work practices and reduce the risks of exposure to any hazards in the workplace.
  9. Implement innovative waste handling and treatment systems to achieve waste minimization goals and reduce costs.
  10. Communicate with management and Corporate EHS staff on matters of importance related to compliance, protection of assets or the health and well being of employees.
  11. Establish and maintain open communication process with all employees as necessary to assure the identification and correction of employee safety, health and environmental concerns.
  12. All other duties and accountabilities, not listed above, as assigned.
  13. Assist with quality management system in areas such as:



  • Process audits
  • Internal audits
  • QMS document control and record retention.



TECHNICAL:

Accident investigation, job hazard analysis, machine safeguarding analysis, medical emergency response training, knowledge on ergonomic assessments, problem solving techniques

Principal Working Relationships:

Works with all plant and joint venture management, salaried and hourly employees. Work directly for Quality Manager with matrix reporting through HR. Maintains positive relationship with Federal, State & Local safety and environmental agencies.





Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree in EHS related area (Environmental Engineer/Technician, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Hazardous Material Management, etc.) desired. High School diploma with 2-5 years prior direct EHS experience may be considered. Equivalent experience may be substituted for the specified education requirement with the Human Resources Manager making the determination as to what constitutes equivalent experience.
