Position Description

We're hiring an Industrial Engineer I! This role performs a variety of engineering duties including manufacturing floor support, process development, and capital equipment purchasing for our Data Centers vertical. Responsible for analyzing manufacturing problems while developing alternative approaches to their solution. Evaluate solutions for efficiency with time studies and cost effectiveness. Maintain a working knowledge of our operating systems and mechanical equipment throughout the facility while seeking to improve our manufacturing processes through developing an awareness of state-of-the-art mechanical technology. The position requires effective interpersonal communication skills and will work closely with multiple levels throughout the organization, in addition to outside vendors or contractor. This position reports to our Production Supervisor and is onsite at our Rockbridge, VA location.

Key Responsibilities

As required by the project, the position writes tool orders and material requisitions and explains the specific needs to tool and material vendors. If tooling work is done internally, the position explains the need to the department supervisor for build or repair of required tooling. The manufacturing problems that confront the position vary in complexity from a minor change in a manufacturing process to a major modification of an existing facility or the installation of new machinery or equipment. On major projects, such as the set-up of a large or complex piece of equipment authorized for purchase or transferred from another plant, the position works with personnel from division or group headquarters who may be attached for the project. The position contributes to each phase of the installation, set-up, debugging, implementation and training. On a project assignment, the position is the liaison between the plant and division staff. The position prepares weekly or monthly reports on the status of each assigned project.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Analyze manufacturing problems and develop alternative approaches to their solution.
  • Evaluate solutions for efficiency with time studies and cost effectiveness. Using Lean methods to reduce cost and process improvements.
  • Maintain practical knowledge of operating systems and mechanical equipment throughout the plant.
  • Seek to improve manufacturing processes by developing awareness of state-of-the-art in mechanical technology.
  • Keep supervisor informed of the status of assigned projects.
  • Updates work instruction and job aids, will work with Pin Point software, and torque tools.
  • Updates Layout for appropriate flow
Required Education & Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree is required for this role (Engineering preferred)

  • 1+ years' of experience in an industrial engineering role is preferred

  • 2D Auto Cad & SolidWorks/3D Modeling equivalency is required

  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and, TS16949 standards preferred
  • Past history of successful product launch activity is a plus as well as previous work experience in assembly with test operations
  • Good personal computer skills and project management skills are needed for this position
  • A basic working knowledge in statistical methods, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Project Management and APQP is needed
  • Communication skills: Excellent verbal and written collaborative team player with an entrepreneurial spirit and can-do attitude
  • Ability to interact effectively with internal and external personnel
