The Industry Expansion Solutions (
IES) unit is a major component of the state's economic development operation by diffusing engineering, science, knowledge and technology to North Carolina industry, business, and public agencies for the enhancement of quality, productivity, and environmental protection in addition to providing supplier matching services through Manufactured in North Carolina, its supply chain database and participation in the Manufacturing Extension Partnership's (
MEP) Supplier Scouting program..
IES is looking for an intern to assist with fielding, qualifying and passing along leads to the appropriate person and being the first point of contact for the organization's supply chain programs. This person should be a dynamic self-starter who has some knowledge of how supply chains function, engineering and manufacturing processes and enjoys researching information with the ultimate goal of helping clients solve real business problems.
Responsibilities include:
- Managing the leads that come into Salesforce and then matching them to the appropriate internal employee
- Managing the Supplier Scouting requests that are disseminated from the MEP National Network, including understanding the request, trying to identify if the need can be fulfilled by a North Carolina company, assisting with the candidate submission and following up as process proceeds.
- Managing the client inquiries that come into the Manufactured in North Carolina supplier database, including vetting them and passing them along to the appropriate member company.
- Other duties as assigned

Minimum Experience/Education |
Degree Seeking Applicant in Supply Chain Management, preference graduate or third - fourth year undergraduate applicant, with department required skills. |

- Good communication skills and self motivated.
- Graduate or undergraduate seeking student in supply chain field.
- Experience with technology and online platforms.
- Ability to analytically approach complicated situations in the supply chain process and make decisions for success.
- Organizational skills, may organize sourcing processes, evaluate options, analyze a process, and work with manufacturers in North Carolina.
