Position Highlights

A Postdoctoral Research Associate I is sought to study virus-host metabolism interactions in the laboratory of Dr. John Purdy (www.immunobiology.arizona.edu/research/purdy-lab). The ideal candidate is an individual with a passion for performing science creatively and rigorously and has a desire to learn virology and metabolism using mass spectrometry, metabolomics, and lipidomics. Candidates will be expected to work collaboratively, have strong critical thinking skills, communicate well and be eager to perform state-of-the-art metabolic experiments.

The Department of Immunobiology at the University of Arizona's College of Medicine is growing into a nationally and internationally recognized research and educational center. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Independently design and perform experiments, analyze data, and keep appropriate records of all research activities.
  • Be an active member of a team by participating in scientific discussions, lab meetings, and other scientific functions.
  • Assist in the development of investigational questions and writing of papers.
  • Sharing results and scientific ideas in a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in virology, immunology, biochemistry, chemistry, molecular biology, or a related field by the time of hire.
  • Experience in one of the following fields: molecular biology, biochemistry, virology, metabolism, bioinformatics or mass spectrometry.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience or interest with tissue culture work and experimental work in virology or metabolism or experience in bioinformatics.
  • Experience or interest in virology, metabolism, or mass spectrometry (e.g., lipidomics, metabolomics, or proteomics).
