Position Title: Public Grant Writer Department: Development Reports to: Grants Manager Location: Arlington Administration, 2116 Arlington Ave Ste 100 Los Angeles, CA 90018 Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt (hourly), Non-Management Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, Retirement Planning (403b), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), etc. JOB SUMMARY: The Public Grant Writer will write, edit, and format grant proposals, reports, and other funding deliverables to public funders, both independently and in collaboration with program and fundraising staff. The Grant Writer reports to the Grants Manager and is a member of the Development Department. This individual may additionally receive direction occasionally from the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Program Officers, Director of Development, and Director of Administration.
ESSSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Work closely with the Grants Manager to ensure that all written materials accurately reflect the agency's mission, policies, and programs in a compelling manner. 2. Responsible for writing appropriate and compelling narratives to be incorporated in proposals, grant applications, letters of inquiry, reports, and other documents. 3. Coordinate RFP/application requirements with Program and Finance staff to gather information that accurately reflects the organization's mission and programs to complete deliverable requirements. 4. Coordinate with the Director of Administration to ensure internal stakeholders are informed of grant and reporting responsibilities. 5. Adhere to reporting requirements and submit timely, accurate reports to funders. 6. Develop and demonstrate an in-depth understanding of agency-wide activities and programs, including meeting with relevant program staff to regularly gather information. 7. Attend meetings set forth by funders to obtain information about the requirements, process, etc. as necessary. 8. Serve as an affordable housing liaison with program staff and developers to write MOUs/Service Agreements/Limited Partnership Agreements. 9. Take the lead in identifying new sources of funding by allocating time to research new public funding availabilities, and subscribing to government agency mailing lists to stay informed of new emerging funding sources. 10. Maintain an accurate and up-to-date public grant submission/reporting/deadline calendar. 11. Attend Development Department fundraising events and fundraising meetings. 12. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: 1. 2-3 years relevant experience writing grants and/or proposals. 2. Strong written communication skills. 3. Strong knowledge of proposal submission and fundraising processes. 4. Able to write and edit clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals. 5. Able to gather data, compile information, prepare reports, and meet deadlines consistently. 6. Able to manage multiple priorities, tasks, and deadlines simultaneously. 7. Knowledge of basic fundraising techniques and strategies.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Working knowledge of Raiser's Edge (or similar database) and prospect research tools 2. Knowledge of fundraising information sources 3. Hold a Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience
WORK ENVIRONMENT; 1. This role is primarily based in an office setting with occasional field visits. 2. Regularly required to sit, stand, bend; occasionally lift or carry up to 35 lbs. 3. On occasion walk or drive to different local sites 4. Will necessitate working in busy and loud environments 5. Will be exposed to elements like cold, heat, dust, noise, and odor 6. May need to bend, stoop, twist, and sit throughout the day
