Position Highlights

The College of Medicine - Tucson's Office of Student Affairs, is seeking an independently licensed mental health clinician (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, PhD, PsyD, etc.,) to serve medical students as a Counselor, Behavioral Health. A successful applicant will provide consultative and psychotherapy services, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning. This position will assist in mental health and well-being programming. The incumbent will report to the Associate Dean, Student Affairs.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide in-person and/or telehealth counseling services using culturally informed and culturally relevant practices to medical students, including psychotherapy treatment, diagnostic evaluation, risk assessment, counseling, crisis management, brief treatment, and referrals, as indicated. May also address life skills, treatment of mental illness, and substance abuse.
  • Work with the Associate Dean, Student Affairs, Lead Counselor of Behavioral Health, and Director of Student Affairs, to improve the overall mission to produce healthy, emotionally intelligent students, who match successfully and deliver excellent quality of care.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation in an electronic record system consistent with ethical guidelines, state statutes, and internal policies.
  • Participate in Orientation, provide workshops and presentations on mental health and well-being topics for medical students.
  • Establish rapport quickly and communicate effectively with students, staff, and faculty.

  • Ability to assist students with identifying their needs, setting goals, crisis management, and providing referrals, as needed.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with others.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Systems-informed consultative skills.
  • An innovative approach to addressing mental health needs within the College.
  • Skilled with a variety of technological tools including Zoom, MS Teams, e-mail, spreadsheets, online scheduling and a variety of mental health applications and online tools.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in related field required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Independently licensed (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, PhD, PsyD, etc.,) and in good standing. If not currently licensed in Arizona, ability to become licensed in Arizona within 6 months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree or higher from an an accredited institution of Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Counseling, or other counseling-related field, in compliance with the AZ Board of Behavioral Health Examiners.
