Position Highlights

Dr. Ernest Vina is seeking Community Health Worker candidates for his grant, Mobilizing Hispanics With Knee Osteoarthritis Through Live Video Consultations: A Dyad-Based Approach, which is focused on improving mobilization in patients with osteoarthritis. The selected candidate will receive special training, including disease manifestations & potential treatments, to provide arthritis-related health education to community members. Educational activities will primarily be conducted on-line and will include couple as well as group sessions. A diverse group, primarily Hispanic, will be targeted and efficacy of the activities will be evaluated. This position may be eligible for flexible schedule and hybrid work week flexible work arrangements in conversation with the supervisor. This is a part-time, temporary position that is expected to end 6/30/2025.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • With guidance from Dr. Vina, educate couples/groups about osteoarthritis and its treatments, including exercise, through on-line and/or in-person sessions.
  • Conduct on-line sessions with couples to improve their physical activity and communication, under the direction of the Principal Investigator.
  • Document process and outcomes of educational activities and sessions.
  • Learn about osteoarthritis, including disease manifestations & possible treatments (e.g., exercise), through reading textbooks, lectures and one-on-one sessions with supervisor.
  • With guidance from Dr. Vina, develop a lesson plan for the educational sessions.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

  • Ability to utilize REDcap Database.
  • Ability to fluently read, write, and speak English and Spanish.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information.
  • Skill in Microsoft Suite.
  • Skills in using audio/video conferencing software (i.e., Zoom).
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • One or more years of relevant work experience in health education.
