Georgia-Pacific's Dixie products manufacturing facility located in Darlington, South Carolina has an opening for an Facilities Engineer reporting directly to the Maintenance & Reliability Manager of the Darlington facility.

The Facilities Engineer is accountable for maintaining the facility infrastructure and managing site utility systems. Some key responsibilities include ensuring critical asset performance and reliability, resolving equipment issues, developing equipment asset strategies, and supervising the facilities maintenance team. The ideal candidate for this role will possess a business-owner mindset, be a problem solver, and have a passion for working with and through others.

The Darlington Dixie plant has been in operation for nearly 85 years and is one of the largest employers in Darlington County. Owned by Georgia-Pacific, the site boasts more than 400 employees and produces plates, bowls, and other tableware products. Affectionately known as "Dixie Cup" by many in Darlington - the plant shifted its focus to exclusively making plates and bowls in 2020 as part of a $145 million facility upgrade and expansion project. For nearly a century, we've created products that make lives easier. What You Will Do

  • Implement comprehensive asset strategies for all assigned assets; to include operating envelopes, operator basic care / zone ownership, spare parts / stocking strategy optimization, condition based monitoring, and predictive & preventative maintenance activities.
  • Supervise a team of Facilities and Utilities technicians, coach, guide and mentor on performance.
  • Participate in maintenance priority and planning meetings, coordination meetings, and schedule review meetings.
  • Oversee planning, scheduling , and execution of facility related work requests through the asset maintenance work process.
  • Coordinate contracted maintenance services.
  • Work closely with Operations, Maintenance Execution, EH&S, and others to troubleshoot process, quality and equipment issues and evaluate and implement improvement ideas.
  • Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) investigations to help improve equipment reliability.
  • Evaluate, approve, and prioritize equipment repairs and scheduled shutdowns; initiating projects as needed.
  • Develop Precision Maintenance documentation for internal and external labor.
  • Perform GEMBA walks in the areas to improve employee engagement and validate maintenance performance.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • High School Diploma or GED and at least a 2-years of post-high school education towards an associate, technical, or higher-level degree program.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial operation working as an engineer, planner, technician, supervisor, coordinator, etc. (Transferrable experience in the military may be considered, in lieu of direct manufacturing experience.)
  • Must be able and willing to work in a food-grade manufacturing plant environment, including extended periods of time in areas which may be noisy, non-air conditioned, or unheated areas.
  • One (1) or more years' experience with a CMMS system.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and Project)

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or other relevant technical discipline.
  • Experience with utilities systems set-up, operation, and/or repair. (i.e., HVAC, water / waste treatment, compressors, fire suppression, etc.)
  • Experience working with SAP.
  • Experience as a maintenance planner and/or maintenance engineer
