Job Overview

The Laryngeal Biomechanics Lab at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Fellow to join our research team focused on the etiology of disease and disability related to the upper human airway. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research projects involving computational models, medical image data processing, and developing idealized and subject-specific computational models. They will also have the unique opportunity to work in a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment. Responsibilities include publishing in peer-reviewed journals, assisting in grant writing, and supervising graduate students, providing a platform for comprehensive professional development.

Essential Functions

  • Your role will be crucial in gathering and analyzing data and developing new ideas that promote our current research. Your contributions will be instrumental in shaping the direction and outcomes of our projects.
  • Prepare data summaries, reports, manuscripts, and presentations of research results.
  • Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and presentations; may assist in grant writing.
  • Keep informed of developments in the field to maintain and enhance professional expertise.
  • May teach techniques to others and train and mentor junior research staff.
  • Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities.
  • Actively seek career and research advice from the faculty supervisor and other faculty members.

Required Education

Doctoral Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

Required Experience

  • In-depth knowledge of specialized field, process or discipline.
  • May require experience with specialized software programs.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • We place a strong emphasis on a candidate's track record of applying fluid and solid mechanics via CFD/FSI modeling. This is a crucial aspect of the role and will significantly contribute to our research projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ideal candidate should have experience with LINUX, STAR-CCM+, ANSYS, Fluent, COMSOL, MATLAB, Simulink, and Python.
  • Experience with parallel computing is a plus.
