Program Manager - Optical Solutions

We are looking for an experienced Program Manager to lead and drive progress on selected new product development platforms. The Program Manager will manage both large- and small-scale projects for the WSS development engineering team located in Bridgewater, New Jersey. The Program Manager will work with a global team of project managers, engineers, and supply chain, operations, and manufacturing personnel to deliver well-planned, well-executed development projects on time, within budget, and to appropriate quality and performance standards. The Program Manager will be a critical member of the engineering development team.

What You Will Do

  • Plan and execute projects (from conception through production) that are on time, within established budgets, and to necessary internal and external specifications (performance, reliability, and quality)
  • Simultaneously manage a mix of multiple engineering projects of various scope and complexity
  • Work closely with technical managers to ensure the quality and timeliness of all technical deliverables, develop engineering resource estimates, and define high-confidence program schedules
  • Work with technical function managers to identify, assess, and mitigate program risks throughout the product development lifecycle, both technical (performance, reliability) and non-technical (cost, schedule, resources)
  • Foster communication to and between project stakeholders, including engineering, manufacturing, management, and organization leadership; Communicate and filter critical project information both down to the technical team and up to senior leadership
  • Lead decision-making for identified issues that may affect project scope, budget, or timeline
  • Coordinate and lead cross-functional technical efforts amongst engineering groups (optical, mechanical, hardware, software, manufacturing, etc.)
  • Participate in post-project analysis to identify lessons learned and opportunities for continuous improvement in the product development process
  • Manage an organized and concise repository of project documentation for technical and planning deliverables
  • Mentor junior project managers to develop their program management skills
  • Align project plans and outcomes with the company's strategic goals, and make informed decisions to drive innovation in the engineering organization

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Software), or related Optical, Communications, or Networking technical discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in a Program Management role for new product development
  • Working knowledge of design, procurement, manufacturing, and test cycles
  • Experience in product lifecycle management
  • Proficiency in managing global product development teams
  • Experience in working to customer requirements and defining project scope
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, both with senior leadership and with project contributors and stakeholders
  • Experience in presenting project plans and status updates to senior management
  • Strong attention to detail and organization of information
  • Experience with tradeoff analysis and critical thinking for practical decision-making
  • Experience in both waterfall and agile development methodologies (phase gate reviews)
  • Experience in project management and planning tools, such as Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint), SmartSheet, Jira, etc.
