Purpose:
The Senior Principal Quality Engineer plays a pivotal role in our organization in supporting the organization by deploying and continuously improving FormFactor's Quality Management System. This highly visible role leads efforts aimed at implementing tools, processes, and procedures to meet or exceed customer's quality expectations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Includes two main aspects of quality,
'Product/Customer Quality Engineering' and
'Manufacturing Quality Engineering'. Other duties may be assigned to assist Quality Manager as needed.
Product/ Customer Quality Engineering:
- Drive and support cross-functional team activities to conduct root cause investigations and implement solutions using 8D methodology for customer complaints, issues, and escalations.
- Facilitate and support problem solving efforts in manufacturing using quality tools such as 8D, Ishikawa, 5Why, 5S, FMEA, SPC, DOE.
- Participate in customer and manufacturing quality meetings.
- Maintain Quality Metrics and drive continuous improvement to achieve the quality goals.
- Support data analysis as needed basis for improvement activities.
Non-conformance Management:
- Own and run weekly MRB and NCR reduction meetings.
- Track non-conforming products, sub-assemblies, material and lead Material Review Board (MRB) efforts to disposition from customer perspective.
- Develop activities to reduce NCRs, prevent and detect defects (vs. reactive responses) during the manufacturing process.
Process Control:
- The Sr Principal Quality Engineer will focus on quality requirements including development of pFMEA, relevant quality control measure for risk reduction and including them in the Manufacturing quality control plans and Inspections protocols.
- Collaborate with cross functional teams to develop, implement/ monitor Process Control plans, Process Capability analysis, Control Charts, Gr&R Studies and associated improvements.
Manufacturing Process Audit:
- Perform manufacturing process audit to confirm conformance with control plans, work instructions and customer requirements. Collaborate with process owners to close gaps identified in manufacturing process audits.
- Validate implementation and practice of process improvement actions outlined as part of internal and external 8Ds and corrective action plans.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE,
AND SKILLS
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Material Science or Electrical engineering or related discipline required, Master's degree or specialization in Quality Engineering is preferred.
- Minimum 5 years (Bachelor's) or 3 years (Master's) combined work experience in Product/ Customer Quality Engineering and Manufacturing Quality Engineering in ISO 9001 company.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in manufacturing environments.
- Structured problem-solving skills to drive to root cause and solid understanding of Quality tools, 8D, Ishikawa, 5Why, 5S, pFMEA, SPC, DOE, Gr&R.
- Strong data collection and analysis skills; understanding of statistics and control charts.
- Experience with statistical data analysis packages like JMP or Minitab.
Preferred:
- Experience working effectively in a cross-functional team environment experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Highly organized, detail oriented, be able to prioritize and work effectively without supervision.
- Ability to travel 10-20% of time as needed.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Visio.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Six Sigma Green Belt and/ or Certified Quality Engineer is plus.
The pay range for this role in Livermore CA. is between $110,700 and $145,320. The pay range may differ in other locations. FormFactor maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in education, training, skills, relevant work experience, business needs and market demands. Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
