Your Job

Our Gypsum plant is hiring a Process Controls Engineer at the Tacoma, Washington facility. The Process Control Engineer will offer technical expertise and project engineering to enhance operational performance at the facility. Responsibilities include conducting root cause analysis of plant systems, implementing solutions using advanced process control tools, and managing project development. These efforts aim to improve safety, reliability, cost reduction, and process efficiency in line with the plant's vision.

What You Will Do

  • Provide advanced technical assistance and leadership on electrical, control, instrumentation, and automation equipment. Work closely with the electrical and process control team and direct troubleshooting efforts.
  • Gather, interpret, and analyze production process data to monitor equipment performance against design, identify operational issues, recommend improvements, and lead the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in automated plant processes, working with local and corporate teams to identify opportunities and implement new advanced manufacturing technologies.
  • Implement electrical and automation improvement projects. Scope and procure parts, hire and manage contractors, program PLC(s) and HMI(s), documentation.
  • Support the safety program by implementing automation systems solutions and by observation.
  • Interface with corporate IT and share local IT responsibilities
  • Provide design documentation sufficient for construction, operations, and maintenance.
  • Design, program, modify, and maintain PLC and HMI systems.
  • Share/Rotate escalated electrical/controls issues with the process control team remotely after hours, with occasional onsite support as needed.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Process Control, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering, or a related Associate/Technical degree with 2-3 years of relevant experience or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in Industrial Control Systems (PLCs and Motor Controls).
  • Experience in Automation or Process Control.
  • PLC programming.
  • AC & DC motor control experience, including drives.
  • Process Control Networking.
  • HMI/SCADA Maintenance and Design.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Industrial electrical knowledge, including both power (480VAC) and control circuits.
  • Experience working with these preferred platforms and standards: Rockwell Studio 5000 and legacy platforms (RS Logix 5, 500), Siemens/TI 505 (Workshop505), Inductive Automation Ignition, GE Proficy iFix, and FactoryTalk View, Rockwell E300/E200, Powerflex, Yaskawa, and Kinetix drives, ControlLogix, Guard Logix. CIP Motion, Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, IO-Link, Profibus, Modbus communication protocols.
  • Experience providing general IT support, including Windows PCs, servers, LAN/WLAN networks, printers, and cameras.
  • Experience working with burner management systems, Fanuc robots, conveyor systems, and Vision systems.
  • Prior experience in a plant maintenance department.

GENERAL SALARY RANGE

For this role, we anticipate paying $110,000 - $140,000 per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
