Job Description: The Surgical Technologist performs various duties as a member of the surgical team to ensure a safe and successful operative procedure. This position functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and directly reports to Surgical Services management.It is expected that the Surgical Technologist will support system wide and surgical operations initiatives and practices. In addition, this person will actively participate in the surgical operations safety plan as outlined. About Primary Children's Hospital Located in Salt Lake City, Utah our hospital is the only Level I Pediatric Trauma center serving a five-state region. We have one of the busiest trauma programs in the country. Our hospital has a 32-bed PICU, 16-bed CICU, 28-bed Neuro Trauma Unit, and 50-bed level IV NICU. Our hospital is continuously ranked as one of the nation's best children's hospitals in 8 out of 10 pediatric specialties in the 2019-2020 Best Children's Hospitals survey b U.S. News & World Report. About the Operating Room We have 16 operating rooms and multiple specialty teams including ENT, Eyes, Plastics, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Cardiovascular, General, Urology, Gynecology, Transplant and Robot with most surgeries being performed Monday-Friday between 7AM - 5PM. Shifts and Scheduling To adequately staff the Operating Room, we have multiple shifts that all staff members rotate through. 7AM - 5:30PM is our most common shift with a limited number of 7AM - 7:30PM shifts. Shift times may be evaluated and changed over time to best serve the needs of the operating room. See shifts below:
After orientation is complete, staff will take call about 4 times in an eight-week schedule period. They will also rotate through the odd shifts as needed, roughly 4 in an eight-week schedule period. All holidays are divided up among staff members. The operating room is closed for scheduled cases on major holidays, but in house and call teams are scheduled for emergencies.
