Student Health Center - Student Affairs

Job Description

Nature of Work

  • The Certified Medical Assistant will perform and assist with clinical procedures, maintain equipment, perform laboratory procedures, and provide direct patient care.
  • Respond to general patient inquiries regarding treatment and care provided at MU Student Health Center (SHC).
  • Escort patients to the exam room and prepare them for their visit with the provider per SHC procedure.
  • Engage with patient in a welcoming manner, providing answers to questions as appropriate, and disseminating patient educational materials to patient(s) as instructed by healthcare provider.
  • Gather or update patient information by reviewing and/or recording medical history, taking vital signs, confirming the visit or treatment purpose, and other duties as assigned by their supervisor in this regard.
  • Assist health care providers during examinations as appropriate.
  • Prepare laboratory specimens and perform basic point of care laboratory tests on the premises, and draw blood. Conduct general functions of patient assistance as directed by supervisor.
  • Clean assigned exam rooms after each appointment in a timely manner. Ensure assigned exam rooms are stocked to predetermined levels per supervisor or policy.
  • Maintain stock levels and order clinic supplies as assigned. Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions and troubleshooting breakdowns.
  • Consistently communicate professionally and courteously.
  • Provide in-service training and precepting as directed.
  • May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Rooming patients- obtaining vital signs, health screenings, allergies, medication history, pharmacy preference.
  • Obtaining lab specimens which may include running point of care labs on site.
  • Assist providers with exams and/or procedures.
  • Administer medications and immunizations per provider order.
Shift

Monday - Friday; 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

This position may require evening and weekend hours supporting activities and programs within the department. Occasionally division and campus projects may require additional hours outside of your normal schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

One of the following certifications:

  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by the American Medical Technologists (AMT)
  • Medical Assistant (NCMA) by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
  • Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) by the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP)
  • Medical Assistant Certification (MAC) by the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)
Anticipated Hiring Range

Range: $14.80 - $23.32 per hour paid on a bi-weekly basis

PAT Level: PAT 3A

University Title: CERTIFIED MEDICAL ASSISTANT

Physical Demands

The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs.
