Job Description

The Executive Director of Annual Giving and Membership will turn alumni and friends into lifelong supporters using innovative tools to boost donations, grow the membership base, and make an incredible impact at Mizzou. This role is the driving force behind a modern and effective annual giving program.
Using the latest annual giving strategies, the Executive Director will lead a high-performing team and build comprehensive philanthropic engagement strategies for Mizzou Advancement.
The ideal candidate will collaborate across Advancement to identify membership and annual giving targets for each of our 20+ university units, including MU Health Care and MU Children's Hospital.
Campaigns will maximize gifts from a broad base of alumni and friends through the optimum mix of digital, print, social media, personal marketing, and outreach. The incumbent will be fully supported in enhancing fundraising strategies annually to increase the number of donors, members, and dollars raised.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • In coordination with the Vice Chancellor for University Advancement, the Associate Vice Chancellor for Donor Engagement and other members of the University Advancement team, the incumbent sets the strategic direction for the annual giving and membership programs at Mizzou, establishing priorities and goals and executing programs that increase annual giving from alumni, parents, faculty/staff, patients, friends and fans.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to grow the number of donors and members, increase annual philanthropic revenue, and feed the major gifts pipeline through active donor engagement, personal outreach, and giving campaigns that feature the latest in digital and print strategies.
  • Implement and manage annual giving and unique solicitation campaigns, including Giving Tuesday, Mizzou Giving Day, and student philanthropy initiatives.
  • Consult with Advancement Services to build reports and comparative metrics to measure, inform, and maximize direct mail and electronic solicitation campaigns and giving.
  • Monitor compliance with all aspects of the university's procurement procedures and sourcing initiatives; manage internal and external vendors and service providers.
  • Develop and manage a comprehensive budget for the annual giving program.

Once you join our team, you will participate in the Discipline of Frontline Fundraising (DFF) program with Plus Delta Partners, a 9-month series of fundraising workshops and 1:1 skill building. Ensuring you have the tools to succeed is an Advancement priority.

Shift

Monday-Friday, 8 am-5 pm, with occasional travel within the state of Missouri

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 7 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Six to eight years of increasing management experience in annual giving, membership or direct marketing teams.
  • Prior experience in a college, university, or health care setting.
  • Enthusiasm for fundraising in a comprehensive research university and the desire to work collegially within a goal-oriented fundraising organization.
  • Knowledge of best practices for annual giving, fundraising principles, methods, and standards.
  • Technology savvy and technologically minded.
  • The ability to work efficiently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and be a team player.
  • Proven project management, time management and organizational skills.
  • Outstanding customer service skills, including cultivating and maintaining positive relationships with external and internal constituents.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $115,000 - $125,000
