Overview

Responsibilities RESPONSIBILITIES Delivers and retrieves a variety of equipment (including but not limited to Beds, formulas, cardiac chairs, monitors, pumps), supplies, flowers, some food items, specimens, medical gases, and other items according to dispatcher or dispatch systems, to patient care areas in support of the SLA to ensure the continuity of patient care. 1. In response to shift leader direction of Service Response Center requests, completes dispatched work requests. 1 1. Delivers patient equipment, supplies, and med gases from designated storage areas to requesting departments. 1 2. Recovers patient equipment, supplies, and med gases from requesting departments to designated storage areas. 1 3. Performs dispatched tasks in accordance with the department service level agreement within the required completion time. 1 4. Performs all dispatched tasks using universal safety precautions as designated through regulatory requirements. 1 5. 2. Maintains designated storage areas for equipment and supplies 2 1. Ensures equipment is brought to and pulled from designated storage areas. 2 2. Ensures storage areas are well maintained, safe and inventoried. 3. Works with maintenance to ensure broken equipment is repaired 3 1. Identifies and tags unserviceable pieces of equipment through the course of normal operations. 3 2. Inquires customers as to the status of suspect or broken pieces of equipment. 3 3. Appropriately tags equipment prior to delivery to designated storage areas or maintenance areas. 3 4. Communicates with maintenance dept. details as to the status of broken equipment. RESPONSIBILITIES 3 5. Prior to the delivery of equipment, checks serviceability and cleanliness of equipment. 3 6. Clean selected equipment as necessary to ensure adequate serviceability. Transports specimens from patient divisions to clinical laboratories and operates the tube system to ensure proper movement of patient specimens or information. 4. 4 1. Through direction of SRC, or shift leader, picks up and delivers specimens to required locations (Labs). Ensures specimens are handled in accordance with universal safety precautions as designated through regulatory requirements. 4 2. 4 3. Ensures Specimens are delivered within the required service level agreement timeframe. 4 4. Conducts specimen rounds during times when the tube system is down or overloaded. 4 5. Monitors the tube system and notifies appropriate parties in the event of disruption of service 5. Utilizes department information systems to retrieve monitor and perform department's basic missions. Is dispatched from, operates and otherwise monitors the Service Response Center system (SRS II, IVR, etc). 5 1. 5 2. Performs routine data entry/retrieval tasks utilizing various information systems as required. 5 3. Monitors the Bed Management Display (BMD). Maintains confidentiality of sign on codes and reports stolen or unauthorized use of the system to shift supervisor. 5 4. 6. Performs other dept. duties as requested. 6 1. If necessary fills isolation stations on patient care units. 6 2. Works with Dept manager to place newly received equipment into operation (i.e. uncrating). 6 3. Follows established record keeping procedures in accordance with departmental policies. Assumes additional responsibilities or projects to assist units and the department as requested by shift leader. 6 4. Assures compliance with federal, state and other regulatory standards, laws, practices and applicable codes of ethics. 6 5. Presents a neat appearance, wearing appropriate and clean uniforms and ID. RESPONSIBILITIES 7 5. Maintains patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPPA standards. Maintains ongoing communications to establish good customer relations with co-workers, fellow employees, vendors and visitors. 7 6. Receives linen from linen plant and distributes throughout the campus. Transfer dirty linen from linen to transporting trailer to ensure timely turnaround on bulk linen deliveries. 10 8. 9. Operates electric tow tractors and scooters always ensuring safe operation 10. Assists in the processing of contaminated Central Supply items to ensure proper decontamination. 11. Accepts Supplies/packages/equipment for distribution to customer departments 12. Performs duties as purchasing receiver 13. Receives all goods delivered to the hospital warehouse from the receiving platform. 14. Issues warehouse supplies in using departments. 15. Replenishes shelves with supplies for cart picking aisles. 16. Participates in annual fiscal year inventory and assists in inventory cycle counts. 17. Performs other department duties as required to meet the needs of the department. Qualifications EDUCATION (number of years and type required to perform the position duties): A minimum of a high school graduate or GED. EXPERIENCE (number of years and type required to meet an acceptable level of performance): One year hospital supply operations or equivalent preferred. SPECIAL SKILLS: Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, customer departments, and supervisor. Ability to read, write, understand and follow specific written and verbal instructions and procedures. Basic math skills. Basic level computer skills to operate PC in a windows environment, with ability to learn and demonstrate competency in basic data entry/data retrieval in departmental information systems utilized within unit. Operate a variety of materials handling equipment. Responsible for performing a variety of routine assignments in accordance with established procedures. Additional Information Minimum experience required. Ability to operate a variety of material handling equipment. Must possess basic math skills. Knowledge of medical products desirable.
