SUMMARY
The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) Residency Program Director (PD) will oversee the following:
?OMS residency program administration, development and implementation of the OMS residency program curriculum plan, ongoing evaluation of program content, resident performance, and the quality of resident education in affiliated institutions and off-service rotations
?Overall compliance with OMS Educational Standards as defined by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).
?Ensuring compliance with the quality and completion of documentation in the electronic dental and medical records.
?Ensuring quality of patient care, and cost-effective and cost-efficient care in the OMS ambulatory and OR centers.
The OMS PD and the Chief of Dentistry and Oral Maxillofacial Surgery will work collaboratively during resident interviews, resident selection, and orientation.
The OMS PD reports directly to the Chief of Dentistry and Oral Maxillofacial Surgery at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Oversee OMS residency program administration, development and implementation of the OMS residency program curriculum plan, ongoing evaluation of program content, resident performance, and the quality of resident education in affiliated institutions and off-service rotations
Oversee overall compliance with OMS Educational Standards as defined by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).
Ensure compliance with the quality and completion of documentation in the electronic dental and medical records.
Ensure quality of patient care and cost-effective and cost-efficient care in the OMS ambulatory and OR centers. Work with the Chief of Dentistry and OMS and Hospital management to improve:
1.Patient flow and other related issues including office hours, scheduling, wait times, billing, and follow-up
2.Patient Satisfaction
3.The physical environment of the OMS department sites
4.Required documentation in medical and dental records for OMS Residents and Faculty.
5.Clinical outcomes in patients with high frequency, high morbidity, high cost, and chronic illnesses by identifying effective systems, approaches, and resources to manage these cases efficiently.
Provide 80% clinical time and 20% administrative time (administrative time will allow for PD administrative responsibilities, scholarly activities, grant writing, research, and publications). If administrative time is not used effectively, the administrative time will be directed toward patient care or resident supervision.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Participate in hospital administrative committees and meetings as required (GMEC, CODA mandated, GME mandated) and requested
    Act as the subject matter expert for network development between all OMS site locations.
    Audit treatment and patient charts as applicable.
    The OMS PD will work with the Chief of Dentistry and Oral Maxillofacial Surgery and YNHH Hospital management to help develop intra and interdepartmental policies and protocols and reinforce them within the Department of Dentistry and Oral Maxillofacial Surgery and other Y-NHH departments.
    Human Resources Management.
    1.Effectively utilize existing processes to select, align, develop, motivate, and retain a team of highly skilled professionals.
    2.Manage Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon faculty.
    3.Provide vision and leadership to OMS staff in a collaborative environment that offers job satisfaction recognition, and stimulates innovative thinking to accomplish goals and objectives
    Clinical Quality Assurance, Quality Improvement, and Safety
    1.Develop and implement a Quality Assurance and Improvement Program for the OMS Residents with a focus on adherence to established practice guidelines, continuity of care, education, and patient safety and satisfaction
    2.Assure and be directly responsible for maintaining OMS CODA accreditation.
    3.Ensure compliance with the ADA and CODA, The Joint Commission, CMS, DPH, DEEP and other external agency standard
    4.Ensure accurate and timely completion of all medical and dental records
    5.Ensure that the residents and staff use the clinical equipment safely and appropriately
    In coordination with the Chief of Dentistry and Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, evaluate OMS clinicians to meet practice requirements and ensure that there is adequate, high-quality faculty coverage and compliance for all sessions
    Education:
    In coordination with the Chief of Dentistry and Oral Maxillofacial Surgery provides a scientific and evidence-based didactic curriculum, which includes but is not limited to teaching biomedical or specialty subjects, organizing and distributing annual curriculums, and reinforcing syllabi standards and quality compliant with the educational standards as defined by CODA and Yale School of Medicine and YNHH Graduate Medical Education (GME).
    Actively participate in bi-annual evaluations of all residents and visiting students with feedback
    Actively organize and remain involved in the Dental and OMS Grand Rounds as both presenter and attendee
    Provide night and weekend on-call coverage as scheduled and ensure appropriate resident and faculty availability. Ensures after-hours billing and documentation is accurate
    In collaboration with other directors and other teaching programs affiliated with YNHH dental service develops resident schedules (didactics and lectures, clinical patient care, operating rooms, on-call, orientation, presentations and rotations)
    Develop a resident rotation schedule and ensure an excellent educational experience for assigned residents by providing oversight of patient care, and delivery of an educational curriculum
    Provide resident supervision in the OMS and Dental Center, OR, and other satellite facilities. Cover resident supervision when attending faculty are unable to be present in the clinic.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

EDUCATION (number of years and type required to perform the position duties):
?D.M.D./ D.D.S. from a US/Canadian dental school.
?Must have completed a CODA-accredited postdoctoral training in Advanced Specialty Training in OMS
?ABOMS Certified
?Full-time as defined by the YNHH

EXPERIENCE

1.Must have at least three years of continuous OMS clinical practice
2.Must have at least three years of hospital-based OMS practice (beyond residency training) on at least a half-time basis (18 ? 20 hrs per week or 0.5 fte).
3.Must have at least three years of academic and administrative experience teaching in a hospital-based OMS Residency Program.
4.At least three years of operating room and behavioral management training, and experience to include the care of the special-needs population is preferred.
5.At least three years of basic science and /or clinical research experience is preferred.
6.Practice management experience is preferred
7.Previous Residency Program Director or Associate Program Director experience desired.

LICENSURE

Maintains active license to practice dentistry in Connecticut; maintains unrestricted DEA Controlled Substances Registration Certificate if providing sedation (initial sedation licensure may be delayed up to 6 months due to CT State DPH delays in onsite evaluations); Maintains unrestricted State of Connecticut Controlled Substance Registration for Practitioners if providing sedation (initial sedation licensure may be delayed up to 6 months due to CT State DPH delays in onsite evaluations); Maintains board certification in Oral & Maxillofacial surgery

SPECIAL SKILLS

?Hospital dentistry training and management of patients with special health care needs; Maintains membership to the Medical Staff of Yale-New Haven Hospital with unrestricted admitting privileges
