Position Summary

The University of New Mexico's College of University Libraries & Learning Sciences (UL&LS) unit of Digital Initiatives and Scholarly Communications (DISC) seeks a motivated student employee interested in assisting in developing the University of New Mexico's online scholarly resources. The student will work closely with DISC faculty and staff to help digitize UNM documents, including theses and dissertations and posting them online to the UNM Digital Repository system (digitalrepository.unm.edu), where they will be available for students and researchers. Students will also assist with scanning and uploading of other content to the digital repository as needed. This is an on-campus work study position at Zimmerman Library. A work study award is required for this position.

Primary duties will include:



  • Operating both Bookeye Flatbed and Treventus ScanBot 2.0 scanner systems to scan bound and loose-leaf documents.
  • Checking scanned pages to ensure high quality digital output.
  • Using Adobe Acrobat DC to combine, and prepare files for upload.
  • Uploading electronic documents into the UNM Digital Commons website.
  • Pulling and returning library materials from the collection to digitize.


All UL&LS student employees are employed on a term basis for the current/ impending school year.


Minimum Qualifications

Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.



Preferred Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Basic computer skills and ability to work in Microsoft Windows, and use Microsoft Office and Adobe Applications
  • Familiarity with image and text scanning.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Familiarity with New Mexico Native American communities and Tribal Organizations.
  • Familiar with Adobe Acrobat DC and OCR processing.
  • Good organizational skills, good attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
