Position Summary

The Center of Occupational Environmental Health Promotions, within the Department of Internal Medicine, is seeking a Medical Assistant to work in an outpatient clinic setting providing professional medical services and patient care. Follows established processes, including patient assessment, and triage.

This position will also require working the clinic front desk, patient registration, working with the New Mexico Risk Management Division on worker comp referrals and working the administrative staff performing back office duties.

Conditions of Employment
  • CPR Certified.
  • May be required to submit immunization records for review for required vaccines and TB testing.
  • UNM will provide Hepatitis vaccination, candidate may decline vaccination through declination form or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
  • A pre-employment background investigation may be required.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.


Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; Medical Assistant certificate or currently enrolled in a medical, nursing or pharmacy program or at least 1 year of experience in a medical field.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience
    working a clinic front desk.
  • Experience performing venipuncture
  • Experience
    obtaining referrals for outside medical treatment
  • Experience
    determining immune status for infectious diseases
  • Experience administering
    vaccinations: MMR, Tdap, Hep B, Varicella, Influenza (and others on a
    case-by-case basis)
  • Experience
    in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Medical record experience
