Position Summary

The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center School of Medicine, Department of Pathology, invites applicants for a full-time position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, on an open track, in the Division of Hematopathology Molecular Genetics Pathology and the Division of Laboratory Medicine.

The successful candidate will join an established Hematopathology and Molecular Genetics Pathology division that provides comprehensive state-of-the-art diagnostic Hematopathology and Molecular Genetics Pathology services as well as ongoing translational research in Hematopathology and Molecular Genetics Pathology and related areas. The Hematopathology and Molecular Genetics Pathology division's group of experienced faculty members oversees a busy national consultation practice that provides a wealth of stimulating and challenging cases. Faculty work closely with our Hematopathology and Molecular Genetics Pathology fellows in our longstanding ACGME-approved fellowship programs, and additionally train residents and teach our medical students. A close and collegial relationship with clinicians at the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center ensures a rewarding environment for delivering patient care. In addition, UNM is a sponsor of TriCore Reference Laboratories, through which we work with partners and clients nationwide. This position will also include a significant role in clinical laboratory management and outreach.

The successful candidate will hold an academic appointment in the Department of Pathology and will participate in diagnostic, educational, and translational research activities.

Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience and education.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:


  1. MD or equivalent
  2. Board certification or board eligibility in Anatomic/Clinical Pathology by the date of hire
  3. Board Certification or board eligibility in Hematopathology and Molecular Genetics Pathology by the date of hire
  4. Must be eligible to work in the United States and obtain medical licensure in New Mexico

Preferred Qualifications:


  1. Broad experience in diagnostic Hematopathology and Molecular Genetics Pathology
  2. Experience/Interest in teaching post-graduate medical trainees, medical students, and/or graduate students
  3. Experience and publication record in translational or clinical research
  4. Experience in laboratory management, including in a reference laboratory environment, or ability to communicate and collaborate with client pathologists
  5. An interest in digital pathology
  6. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
  7. Interest/Experience in community outreach to rural and indigenous communities
