Position Summary

The Department of Chemistry & Chemical Biology (CCB) invites applicants for adjunct instructor positions to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in general and/or organic Chemistry for the Summer 2023, Fall 2023, and Spring 2024 Semesters. Anticipated openings will be for Adjuncts who can teach courses in a broad range of subject areas, including but not limited to the subject areas covered in the following UNM courses:

  • CHEM 301, Organic Chemistry
  • CHEM 302, Organic Chemistry
  • CHEM 1215, General Chem 1
  • CHEM 1225, General Chem II
  • CHEM 1120C, Intro Chem for Non-Majors
  • CHEM 1215, General Chem 1 STEM Majors

The Department of Chemistry & Chemical Biology (CCB) is seeking qualified temporary part time faculty members to teach undergraduate and/or graduate level classes in various disciplines as specified above. Instructors are responsible for all aspects of any class they are teaching. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to meeting with the class during assigned times, delivering the course curriculum, developing and grading assignments, reporting grades, and assessing student learning outcomes as outlined by the Chair of the department or Director of the program.

Successful candidates should demonstrate excellent teaching skills, commitment to work with students in diverse communities, and willingness to collaborate with faculty colleagues to deliver a coordinated curriculum with consistent standards. Teaching experience for this subject at the undergraduate level is preferred. Teaching faculty in CCB have a culture of continuously improving our teaching for better student learning.

Positions are contingent upon need each semester as determined by student enrollment levels, courses on the current course schedule, and demand driven by graduation requirements. Positions may be filled or eliminated each semester up to the deadline for students to drop or add courses. Candidates who are selected for these positions will report to the Chair of the department.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

To teach courses as described above are determined by Higher Learning Commission's accreditation requirements for faculty, and must be met by one of these ways:

Master's Degree or higher in Chemistry or subfield for which you are applying;

Or

Master's degree or higher in a field other than Chemistry that is related to the position for which you are applying;

Or

Successful completion of at least 18 graduate credit hours in an accredited program in the discipline or subfield for which you are applying (i.e. BA or BS degree for example).

* Demonstrated expertise in teaching undergraduate chemistry courses

* A demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and cooperation with faculty colleagues

* A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
