Position Summary

The Community Environmental Health Program, College of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is seeking a HS Research Tech 3 to provide a wide array of research tasks under multiple research grants.

This position will be responsible for laboratory duties which include cataloguing clinical research biosamples and providing them to researchers running assays, tracking and organizing sample returns and data, performing flow cytometry and ELISA based assays, and communicating effectively with PI, laboratory manager, etc.

The Community Environmental Health Program looks at the potential effects of the environment on community health. This position is supported by four NIH research grants. Flexibility to work on different projects is important. Employees will be expected to learn, plan and conduct research experiments, share data, monitor inventories, and order supplies. Occasional field work/travel to locations in New Mexico and Navajo Nation will be expected.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Perform scientific research tasks related to the initiation and ongoing efforts of IRB approved protocols and procedures
  2. Catalog clinical research samples
  3. Provide research samples to analysis sites, tracking return of samples and data organization
  4. Use advanced laboratory equipment
  5. Process samples using research protocols
  6. Perform flow cytometry and ELISA based methods
  7. Order supplies and help with supply inventory
  8. Enter data and sample information into spreadsheets and REDCap
  9. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Conditions of Employment
  • For individual positions in which driving is a job requirement, a valid NM driver's license and valid UNM driver's permit will be required.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Annual TB testing may be required if working in a patient care area.


Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous research experience
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to follow research protocols
  • Knowledge of REDCap and/or other scientific database storage systems
  • Experience with flow cytometry and ELISA based methods
  • Good communication
  • Experience with ordering, receiving and tracking supplies and reagents
  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology or a similar field
